Erika Alexander “Shocked” And Crying After Drew Barrymore Surprises Her With ‘Living Single’ Co-Star Queen Latifah On ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’

Erika Alexander was filled with emotion after Drew Barrymore surprised her with her Living Single co-star Queen Latifah three decades after the show first came on the air.

On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Alexander stopped by to promote her new film American Fiction — but Barrymore had some other plans in mind as she introduced a familiar face to ask Alexander questions in the “Final Five” segment.

“Hey, Erika! Surprise!” Queen Latifah said from a pre-recorded video, sending Alexander into shock. “We had so much fun doing Living Single that I think the world needs to share a little bit of that. So I’m here for ‘Final Five.’ What is one behind-the-scenes moment that you will never forget?”

Before she could answer the question, Alexander put her face into her hands as tears began to flow from her eyes.

“First of all, thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve seen her. I love her,” she told Barrymore, before tearfully addressing her longtime friend directly by saying, “Congratulations on The Equalizer. She’s a mommy now. Everything.”
After working through her emotions, Alexander remembered how the cast used to undress in front of each other and “compare breasts” when they weren’t filming.

“I love that we had that sort of thing where we really cheered each other on,” she said. “Also, with our bodies — because we were women that were considered bigger women on TV and to actually go and have our first person that saw us in wardrobe go, ‘Look at that! Look at how they’re sitting up. Those are fine!’ We gave ourselves a lot of encouragement.”

She added, “So, yes, I remember that a lot. A lot of body positivity.”
Barrymore then praised Alexander as “the best at this game,” to which the actress replied, “You shocked me with her! In a good way.”

As the first primetime show created by a Black woman (Yvette Lee Bowser), Living Single starred Alexander, Queen Latifah, Kim Coles and Kim Fields as four friends living in Brooklyn. The sitcom ran for five seasons from 1993 to 1998.

“Those are my sisters,” Alexander said, before also shouting out co-stars T.C. Carson and John Henton.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
