Jesse Spencer will play Matt Casey in the finale of the Chicago Fire. Airing on Wednesday, May 24, the finale will see Casey return from his final appearance in episode 18. However, Taylor Kinney will not appear as Kelly Severide in this episode, TV Insider reported.

Chicago Fire, which recently received its season 12 renewal, last saw Casey in town teaming up with Homeland Security. And the task force involving Casey included Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). However, a reunion with paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) made for some uncomfortable moments during that episode.

But while fans welcome Spencer’s return, Taylor Kinney remains on a leave of absence. Kinney has been away since January dealing with a personal issue. Chicago Fire explained Severide’s absence previously in episode 15.

Because Spencer has made a cameo appearance before this season, there are rumors that he will be returning to the Chicago Fire. And the revealers for the finale hint at the possibility that Casey will appear in two different storylines. First, a story suggested that Brett was waiting for “life-changing news”. And second, Kidd uncovers a promising new lead in a case involving a Homeland Security case.

During a fire in Portland, Casey discovered documents that raised suspicions. And evidence exists suggestive of the infrastructure on some cities. Because of that ability, the task force worked to create a network of contacts in the target cities, including Chicago.

However, amid that drama, Casey fibs about his romantic life. And in response to discovering that Brett has been seeing someone, he claims he has become involved as well. But then Casey admitted he lied.

“I’m out there,” he said about his personal life. “But nothing really sticks.” And he seems aware that he knows why. Even though Brett and Casey had ended their relationship, the possibility of his job ending in Oregon opens the door to revisiting the situation. And so Casey wants to explore if that seems like a possibility. Will the answer get revealed in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale on May 24?
