Chicago Fire promo teases deadly explosion in season 12

Chicago Fire has been keeping the plot details of season 12 under wraps. It’s safe to assume that the cliffhangers of season 11 will be addressed, like the proposal made by Casey (Jesse Spencer) or the fate of Mouch (Christian Stolte), but we had no idea what else would happen until NBC released a One Chicago promo.

The promo, which also includes scenes from Chicago Med and Chicago PD, shows Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) taking charge of an emergency situation outside of a building. “We do not have a lot of time, let’s go, let’s go,” Boden exclaims as the 51 team rushes to get civilians to safety. Then, all of a sudden, an explosion occurs in the building behind him.

The 51 team will have to navigate a massive explosion in 2024

The explosion catches Boden off-guard and he can be seen recoiling from the blaze alongside the other firefighters. The whole sequence plays out at the 15 second mark of the promo, though later on, Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) can be seen carrying an unconscious woman out of the building.

We’ve seen plenty of building explosions over the years on Chicago Fire, but it’s been a bit since we’ve seen one as severe as the one depicted in the promo. The last time one occurred, Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) died and Gallo (Alberto Rosende) nearly died.

Since Gallo is set to leave the show in season 12, some fans have speculated as to whether he will get killed off. Rosende has confirmed that he’s already finished shooting his scenes, so we’ve been able to ascertain that his character will be written off early. That being said, the character almost died in season 11, as was already stated, so it would be a bit too repetitive to run back the same exact storyline.

It’s also worth considering that Mouch is still fighting for his life in the hospital.

Chicago Fire likes to remind its viewers that its characters are in constant peril, but they usually do a good job of spacing out the storylines in which a character is near death. We doubt any of the 51 team will die during the building explosion, but we know something dramatic (and likely thrilling) will take place.
