Wednesday star Joy Sunday talks about how Bianca’s relationship with the titular character could evolve. Joy plays Bianca Barclay, one of the students at Nevermore Academy. Bianca is a successful siren, and she’s connected to Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams by being the ex-girlfriend of Xavier Thrope (Percy Hynes White), who takes an interest in Addams. Throughout season 1’s eight episodes, Wednesday and Bianca develop something of a rivalry.

In comments to Entertainment Weekly, Sunday talked about how she hoped the relationship between Barclay and Addams would evolve for Wednesday season 2. The actor mentioned how she’s excited to see their friendship bloom alongside their rivalry. In the quote below, Sunday also talks about how the two characters are linked despite different trajectories:

I think to have a little bit of competition. I’m really excited to see their friendship bloom alongside that. These two really powerful and resolute characters [end up growing into] beautiful young women.

Despite the fact that we’re both trying on our different trajectories, we can still recognize the beauty and it’s so natural for her and Wednesday. I certainly appreciate being able to support my friends however far they go, however high they reach for the stars.

Will Wednesday Season 2 Expand The Show’s Focus?

Wednesday is one of Netflix’s biggest success stories, with a spinoff centered around Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester reportedly in the works. Although nothing has been confirmed, and Ortega has not commented on the subject. The Uncle Fester spinoff comes after Armisen made an appearance in a season 1 episode with an expectation he will return for season 2.

Episodes focusing on different Nevermore Academy students and their surroundings could be a smart idea to try. Few details are available about Wednesday season 2. But it could be the case that, with an increased episode count, there may be a solo episode focused on Bianca and her backstory or even developing into more about Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).
Teen dramas, at their best, have done well when the focus is somewhat split and allows for the spotlight to be shared by a few characters. While the debut season was understandably focused on the lead character, there are a variety of different reasons to make sure the rest of Wednesday cast the ensemble gets their time in the center of the frame.
