Will Cancelled Station 19 Be Saved By Netflix?

As Station 19’s Final Episodes Air, Fans Hope Netflix Will Keep the Fire Burning

There was a time when a network deciding to cancel a show meant the series — no matter how loved — was dead. These days, however, shows which have been killed off by one network are often resurrected by another. So it’s not terribly surprising that as Station 19 airs it’s final episodes, fans are hoping that the series might find a new home… and they know exactly where it would fit: Netflix.

When our sister site, TVLine, recently put that idea out into the universe, fans showed up in droves to shout from the proverbial rooftops — also know as the Twitterverse — that they were ready to help manifest this scenario into reality.

“This show is too good to let go of,” said Capisha. “Trending, hitting ratings in a 10 p.m. time slot with little marketing. With determination and passion, we’re making it known [that Station 19] deserves a streaming home! Netflix, let’s turn it into action and have Station 19 for more seasons!”

It was a sentiment echoed over and over, reverberating across the internet. And certainly, showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack have heard the clarion call. Asked about the possibility of a shift to Netflix or some other platform, Clack joked to TVLine “They don’t tell us anything,” before adding that they would “happily go wherever [Station 19] goes!”

Added Paige, “We would happily, happily, happily do another season if there were an opportunity to do it.” (And one definitely got the distinct impression he would, if necessary, add an infinite number of “happilies” to that statement.

While numbers have slipped this season, it’s not at all surprising on several levels. For one thing, ABC moved the series to a post-Grey’s Anatomy slot in order to make room for 9-1-1. And of course, many folks stop watching a show once it has been axed rather than continue committing time in their busy schedules to something perceived as doomed.

Creatively, however, the show is thriving thanks to a winning combination of workplace drama, volatile personal relationships and timely topics. And not for nothing, but the devoted fan base has made it pretty clear that they will do whatever it takes to have their voices heard where another season is concerned.”There are so many stories to be told,” tweeted Lisa Jones. “The fans will keep going until a Season 8 is confirmed, and wherever that may be, legions of fans will follow!”
