The Power Could Perfect Daenerys Targaryen’s Game of Thrones Vision

Season 1 of The Power has parallels to Daenerys Targaryen’s journey on Game of Thrones, but Allie’s better positioned to break the wheel in this show.

As Season 1 of The Power unfolds, fans are treated to a thought-provoking story. The series is a candidate for one of Prime Video’s best sci-fi shows, detailing the journey of young women across the world who develop electric powers. Of course, society comes to fear them, with toxic masculinity and the patriarchy feeling threatened.

The Power‘s Electric Girls, though, won’t be stifled, with Allie, in particular, wanting to use her strength to lead and effect change. It nods to what Daenerys Targaryen tried to accomplish on Game of Thrones. However, while Daenerys’ vision ended up being flawed, Allie can actually finesse and complete it, speaking to a larger picture than something inherently personal.

The Power’s Allie Unites and Inspires

On the HBO series, Daenerys initially was a liberator, breaking shackles and freeing slaves. However, as she got more power, she also gained more challengers for the throne of King’s Landing. Knowing she could lose her grip on her birthright, she grew cynical and distrustful. This cold behavior alienated Jon Snow, made even worse when he saw her killing innocents. Daenerys lost faith in people, and they, in turn, were losing faith in her.

It led to Jon killing her to save the realm, but The Power‘s Allie has a key to perfect this vision. As she leads a rebellion at a convent, she comes off as a messiah. It stems from her healing a sick girl experiencing seizures. This sparks a science versus religion debate, with some nuns fearing Allie, but others embracing the change in a story akin to Marvel’s X-Men. Allie soon realizes the girls need a leader, so she steps up and lets them know that, in time, they’ll cure the world of its hate — a doctrine they graciously buy into as they need someone to look up to in these trying times.

The Power’s Allie Has a Key Asset

Allie forms a feminist teen movement in The Power

Allie’s is a powerful message on the Prime Video series, inspiring her crew. In Allie’s case, the advantage is her feeding off the belief the girls place in her. It’s unlike Daenerys, who did come from a place of ego down the line, despite good intentions. However, Allie just wants to create a better planet so women who’ve been abused like her won’t ever feel like their agency’s being stripped.

Daenerys endured similar trauma from the patriarchy after being sold into servitude. And while she did find the light at a point, her journey, struggles and perspective pushed her over the edge. Thus, she was a victim, broken and losing her way in her final days — something people often downplay when they label her a “Mad Queen” without addressing the catalysts involved in this descent.

But in Allie’s case, she’s not losing faith like Daenerys did. She’s emboldened by her followers, wanting to convert more so that they can believe in themselves. It’s not about taking a throne; it’s about emancipating people from their own fears. This needles down into the human condition in a more nuanced manner, which gives Allie a better chance at retaining and increasing her base. It helps her to maintain control as she won’t feel isolated like Daenerys did, letting the girls know this world isn’t Allie’s — it’s theirs. In short, Allie’s arc is more selfless, elevating her cause in a xenophobic realm — something Prime Video’s Carnival Row also addressed with human and fae folk hating each other. Ultimately, Allie is becoming an idea and symbol that could spread from country to country in a way that the valiant, once-optimistic Daenerys attempted, but sadly, fumbled in the end.
