Kevin Costner may be going through a messy divorce, but the Yellowstone star has declared that he’s “already in love.” Costner recently welcomed a new addition to his family, so keep scrolling to see the adorable photo of the new Costner member.
On February 1, Costner shared the exciting news on Instagram that he adopted a puppy, which looks to be a Labrador Retriever. The news of Costner’s new furry friend comes after the reported romance between Costner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, and their former neighbor, Josh Connor.
“Newest addition to the family. I’m already in love with this special guy,” he penned alongside a few photos. The first picture shows him standing next to the pooch, while in the second photo, we see the two-time Oscar winner cuddling with the pup. Finally, Costner snapped a solo picture of the little lab in the last shot.
Costner’s family has been through a lot this year. In May 2023, Costner’s wife, fashion designer Christine Baumgartner, filed to divorce the Yellowstone star. The couple share three kids: Cayden (16), Hayes (14), and Grace (13).
At the time, the couple didn’t provide a specific reason for their breakup, but Costner’s representative did give a statement to People Magazine with a vague explanation. “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” the statement read. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
Costner and Baumgartner agreed to settle their divorce in September, ending a contentious months-long court fight over their premarital agreement. As for the latest update on their divorce case, sources told Entertainment Tonight that although the settlement is in place, nothing’s official yet, as the case is still waiting for a judge’s approval to finalize the divorce.
As for Costner’s romantic life, the Yellowstone lead was spotted with singer Jewel in the Caribbean in December, sparking dating rumors.
The first part of Costner’s four-part feature film Horizon: An American Saga is slated to hit theaters on June 28, 2024. In the film, Costner’s 14-year-old son Hayes will appear alongside his father and a star-studded cast that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, and more.
“I kind of did it on purpose, so he could be hanging out with me,” Costner told People about his son’s role. “And the same thing for Cayden, same thing for Grace. I’m like any other parent, I’m trying to figure out, like, ‘This is really neat. You should come be with me.’”
As for Yellowstone, Season 5, part two of the Western series is now slated to air in November 2024. It’s still unknown whether Costner, who plays patriarch John Dutton III, will appear in the drama’s final episodes, but it’s not looking likely.
During a child support hearing on September 1, 2023, Costner testified, according to People, that he left the show after being offered a sixth season because negotiations didn’t go as planned. He claims he was offered less money and had “creative” issues. Additionally, the 68-year-old actor said via court documents (obtained by Insider) that he was “no longer under contract” for the hit drama.
