Queen Latifah recalls getting ‘toasted’ with her Living Single costars: ‘It was just a big, big friendship’

The “Equalizer” actress, who was surprised by her costar Erika Alexander, confirmed she’s “up for anything” when it comes to a “Living Single” reunion.
Less than a month after Queen Latifah surprised her Living Single costar Erika Alexander on The Drew Barrymore Show, the American Fiction actress made sure to return the favor when the “Ladies First” rapper visited the talk show on Wednesday.
Latifah, who starred as Khadijah on the ‘90s sitcom, described the invitation to surprise Alexander — who instantly became teary-eyed after seeing her costar projected onto the screen behind her — on the show as an “easy ask.”

“If anything, I was trying to keep a straight face with some of those questions,” she explained. “Like, what are some of the things we would do behind the scenes, which was so fun… the best of times. It was like going to college together.”
Drew Barrymore then suggested that they play a round of her recurring segment The Final Five, which is when a special costar appeared onscreen to ask Latifah a series of questions.
“Hey Dana! I mean, Queen Latifah. Surprise, bebe! It’s your old buddy and Living Single costar, Erika Alexander the Great,” she cheered as Latifah began to laugh. “Now, you asked me questions when I came to visit Drew, so I had to return the favor. So let’s have some fun with the Final Five!”
Alexander then proceeded to ask Latifah what her favorite memories were from their time together on the show, which aired for five seasons on Fox from 1993 until 1998.
“Oh my god. I think my favorite memories were just kinda everything behind the scenes. Like, we had fun shooting the show, but it was the rehearsals, it was preparing for the show, because we would go way overboard and very dramatic and very funny,” Latifah replied. “We would always hang out after we shot the show, we would go somewhere like to the Sheraton in Universal and just get toasted. And have a good time together — yeah, we would go to that Sheraton and get it in. And we would just hang out and be friends. And the guys too. It was just a big, big friendship.”
At the end of the segment, Alexander returned for one final question. “Now, finally, are you up for a Living Single reunion on Drew’s show?” She asked. “Bye Dana — I mean, ah, Queen Latifah! And bye to you, Drew. Thank you, beautiful ones. Love ya!”
“I love you so much, Erika! Oh my god, Easy E,” Latifah exclaimed. “I am up for anything Living Single reunion. I’m up for anything.”
Living Single followed the ever-changing lives of a group of best friends living in the same Brooklyn brownstone together in New York City. Its cast, which featured all Black leads, also included Cress Williams, Terrence “T.C.” Carson, and Mel Jackson.

This isn’t the first time Latifah has discussed her desire to bring back Living Single. While visiting Watch What Happens Live in 2017, Latifah said that she’d been “working on” a potential revival of the series. “It’s not there yet, but hopefully we can get it happening.”
