FALL RIVER – Portuguese-American actress/director Daniela Ruah, who is best known for her role as special agent Kensi Blye on NCIS:Los Angeles, was spotted at a well-known Portuguese restaurant in Fall River.

On her way from the airport to Providence to host the International Portuguese Music Awards, she stopped last Thursday at Sagres Restaurant with her mother and a friend to satisfy her cravings for bacalhau (cod fish), one of her favorite Portuguese dishes.

“They were here a couple of hours. They had Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá,” said Victor DaSilva, who co-owns Sagres with his brother Manuel Ferreira.

“She actually wanted Bacalhau com Natas, which we make here as a special,” he noted. “If I had known she liked that, I would have made it because that has to be prepared in advance. It’s not something we can do on the spot.”

DaSilva suggested she should try one of Sagres’ popular delicacies.

“I told her to have a goat cheese which we sell here,” he said. “We sell tons of it and told her she should try it. She liked it.”

And what did she have for dessert?

“José Fernandes, the waiter, got her some pastéis de nata,” DaSilva said. “She had a good time.”

DaSilva said he really enjoyed chatting with Ruah and finding out that she actually was born in Boston and moved to Portugal as a child.

“She is a really, really nice person,” he said. “I told her it was an honor to have her here.”

DaSilva, who came here from Portugal at age 12, said he is so happy for Ruah’s successful journey.

“Someone like that being Portuguese, I am very proud,” he said. “It’s a privilege to have her here. It was a great experience. Being Portuguese and being an immigrant, that was really great.”

And apparently that cod fish dish did really hit the spot.

“She told me I should open a restaurant in Los Angeles,” DaSilva said. “I told her that probably that would have been the best idea because there are so many Portuguese restaurants down here.”
