NCIS: Los Angeles boss addresses couple’s baby storyline

NCIS: Los Angeles viewers may not have to wait too long to see fan favourites Kensi Blye and Martin Deeks expand their family.

The NCIS spin-off is considering whether or not to bring children into the mix for Kensi and Deeks, with showrunner R Scott Gemmill telling TVLine that the question of the couple falling pregnant or adopting a child has been “a big dilemma” for the writers’ room.

With adoption now on the cards, NCIS: Los Angeles is grappling with another issue: whether it’s actually responsible for Kensi and Deeks to become parents. They don’t exactly wrap themselves in cotton wool, after all.

“That’s been a big dilemma for us as writers, because you don’t want to do something that makes your characters look negligent,” Gemmill explained.

“Would it be a wise decision to have a child when both of you are putting your lives in jeopardy every day? That’s a legitimate concern for the two of them, and something that we will have to explore as we move forward.”

Hinting that Kensi is just as likely to get pregnant, he added: “Whether Kensi is able to get pregnant or whether it’s going to be an adoption, that’s a tricky one because you want them to be happy, but you also don’t want them to look irresponsible.”

Potential new arrivals aside, the Los Angeles-based series recently bid farewell to Barrett Foa and Renée Felice Smith’s characters, with both tech consultant Eric Beale and intelligence agent Nell Jones deciding to leave the US for Tokyo in season 12.
