MY THOUGHTS ON ‘THE GOLDEN BACHELOR’

Hey everyone, it’s finally here. “The Bachelor” franchise that has been teased for years is finally on the air: “The Golden Bachelor.”

The premise of the new show is to give the older generation (yes, the baby boom generation) a second chance to find love. A lucky grandfather (literally) dates 22 women, in an attempt to find the second love of his life.

The first Golden Bachelor was Gerry Turner, 72 years old, from Indiana. Turner married his high school sweetheart Toni and they later had two daughters together. After 43 years of marriage, Toni fell ill and suddenly passed away in 2017.

Turner entered the show to find the second love of her life among the 22 contestants on ABC’s most recent spinoff from the wildly popular “Bachelor” franchise.

These women range in age from 60 to 75 and are all vibrant and life-loving individuals.

Their entrance is truly something to see. A woman pretends to use a walker, revealing only a short black dress underneath her grandmotherly appearance. Another woman on a motorbike entered.

It can be said that for these women, age is really just a number.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Turner held its weekly rose ceremony. During the ceremony, he gave many roses. If a contestant receives a rose, it means Turner wants to spend more time with them and they will continue filming for another week.

However, if the contestant does not receive a rose, it means Turner’s relationship no longer wants to pursue the potential with them. Sadly, that means their journey on the show has come to an end.

Turner gave 16 roses on the first night, sadly six women had to go home.

To be honest, I had my doubts about whether I would like the show or not. I’m embarrassed to say, I don’t know if the show delivers the good mix of romance, drama, and entertainment needed for every good reality TV show.

However, I’m happy to say I was wrong. I quickly fell in love with the cast, their cheerful personalities, and their thirst for love and adventure.

“The Golden Bachelor” is markedly different from previous shows in the franchise. Shows like “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” should always be viewed with caution. The reason is because most contestants seem to participate for fame, not for love.

The shows mentioned above tend to focus on appearance rather than love. Other than that, the movie (although I liked it) was mostly superficial. After all, it’s hard to take 30 drunk men and women fighting over someone they just met five hours ago seriously.

However, “The Golden Bachelor” has really good energy. The female characters and protagonists are adorable, funny, and have such a realistic atmosphere that you can’t help but hope that they all succeed in their quest to find love.
