Mary’s Post-Germany Young Sheldon Season 7 Story Teased By Producer

Co-showrunner Steve Holland previews what new life awaits Zoe Perry’s Mary when she and Sheldon finally return to Texas in Young Sheldon season 7.

Mary will need to adjust to her new life when she and Sheldon return to Texas in Young Sheldon season 7. The Big Bang Theory prequel has kept the Coopers separated since the events of the Young Sheldon season 6 finale. While George and the family deal with the aftermath of the tornado, Mary keeps an eye on Sheldon as he continues his summer study program in Germany.

Speaking with TVLine, co-showrunner Steve Holland teases what Mary’s post-Germany will be like. Mary and Sheldon are set to return to Texas in Young Sheldon season 7, “Ants on a Log and a Cheating Winker,” which will premiere on March 7. Read his full quote below:

She’s sort of having to figure out where her place is. It’s not that she’s unhappy that the house isn’t falling apart, but she steps back into this world where she’s not as needed as she thought she would be. Obviously, she’s still needed — she’s the mom of the house — but in her mind, she’s feeling a little displaced.

Will Mary Return In Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon Spinoff?

With three episodes released, Young Sheldon’s shortened final season only has 11 episodes left. It’s safe to say that the remainder of its run will be devoted to the family unit. Beyond that, however, the Coopers’ story in Texas will continue on the small screen via the upcoming Mandy and Georgie spinoff. Despite being a continuation of Young Sheldon, no other main cast member has been confirmed to join Montana Jordan and Emily Osment in their show yet.

If the creatives behind the new series insist on sticking to the established canon, then Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon spinoff should feature Mary. Per The Big Bang Theory, the eldest Cooper child took over the family after George unexpectedly died — something that is confirmed to happen sometime in the next several episodes of the prequel. It would be an inaccurate claim from Georgie if Young Sheldon ends and he moves far from his family since he wouldn’t be able to keep an eye on them. At the very least, Mary and Missy need to make a cameo.
If CBS doesn’t bring back Mary in Young Sheldon’s offshoot, then it needs to leave the character in a way that sells the idea that she eventually became Laurie Metcalf’s older iteration in The Big Bang Theory. Despite sharing some of the character’s hallmarks, Zoe Perry’s younger version is still significantly different from her future self. Young Sheldon should explain how she makes her way back to church after being disillusioned with it in season 5.
