“It is what it is”: Daisy Ridley is Hard at Work to Lose the Star Wars Tag

Despite being continuously associated with ‘Star Wars’, Daisy Ridley believes her work beyond the franchise shows different facets to her.

Daisy Ridley’s stint in the Star Wars sequel trilogy shot her to instantaneous stardom. However, after her three-film run, her association with the franchise has become nearly intrinsic to her identity as a Hollywood performer.

In a recent interview, the 31-year-old actress reflected on this attribution, affirming that, although she’s showing different facets of her acting chops by committing to endeavors vastly separate from the beloved space opera franchise, the interlinking of her name to Star Wars will always be there.

She also shared what she believed would follow suit in her career after her tenure in the hotly-debated recent trilogy concluded. She related to a quote by MCU alum Robert Downey Jr., where he believed that despite having done an ample amount of work (and the best work) in the franchise, his efforts went unnoticed because of the genre and his embodiment of the character wasn’t deemed by people a ‘performance.’

Feeling similarly, Ridley believed Star Wars involved her doing many different things and helped her learn so much that it satiated her urge to scratch a particular itch. However, sooner or later, during the pandemic, she would yearn for work (beyond the multi-billion dollar IP) to make herself feel productive.
