Game of Thrones: Jon & Dany Meeting Was ‘Weird’

After seven seasons of waiting, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen finally met on Game of Thrones – but Emilia Clarke said it was a bit ‘weird.’

After some seven years on our screens, two of the biggest Game of Thrones characters finally met in season 7 to tease the mother of all alliances. However, actress Emilia Clarke said that it was all a bit “weird” when she first shared a scene with co-star Kit Harington.

The world of Westeros got a little smaller in episode 3, “The Queen’s Justice,” as Jon Snow sailed to Dragonstone to shore up some resources from Queen Daenerys Targaryen. As the King in the North refused to bend the knee, it looked for a while that the Stark bastard might find himself on the wrong end of a Targaryen BBQ, but it didn’t take long for both parties to put their differences aside. While the whole thing started off a little tense, Clarke revealed that it wasn’t just their characters who felt out of their depth.

Speaking to EW, the Mother of Dragons recalled the first time that two of the show’s leading stars met each other on set, and it seems that there wasn’t room for two people vying to have the best hair in the Seven Kingdoms:

“Both of us were going, ‘ Ahhh  what are  you  doing on  my  set!?’ This is weird! There’s another Hair in town, and I don’t like it!”

Harington agreed, while it seems that the two characters have spent so long apart on the show, the actor needed a refresher on Daenerys’ storyline:

“We were both kind of freaking out. I asked Emilia what her dragons were called again. Usually you start working on a movie and meet [a costar] for the first time and you develop chemistry on screen over time. Here, you know somebody for seven years and you’ve watched their character on screen all that time. So it’s a unique experience as an actor to come together and know the world is watching.”

Given that both Clarke and Harington have had so much screen time to become two of the de facto leads of the show, it is easy to forget that neither has crossed paths before in their Thrones tenure. While Snow looks set to be Team Dany from now on out, the show is obviously working toward the reveal that Jon himself is half-Targaryen thanks to that R+L = J bombshell from season 6. With fans of the show also shipping a Jon and Dany romance, Snow dating his aunt wouldn’t be the weirdest thing to happen on a show full of graphic nudity and R-rated incest.

Whatever happens next, expect “When Jon Met Dany” at Dragonstone to be the first of many meetings for our fan-favorite heroes. As Game of Thrones winds toward its shortened season 8, all bets are off on who (or what) will be sitting on that Iron Throne. However, with Jon and Daenerys now at each other’s side with a trio of dragons, expect things to heat up in that race for the pointy chair.
