Game Of Thrones’ Jon & Daenerys Sex Scene Was Extra Awkward On Set For One Reason

Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen’s sex scene during Game of Thrones season 7 was extra awkward on set for one reason, reveals Emilia Clarke.

Jon and Dany’s sex scene during Game of Thrones season 7 was extra awkward on set for one reason. After a period of tension, the King of the North and Khaleesi finally sleep together during the Game of Thrones season 7 finale while aboard a Northbound ship. The sex scene is especially awkward for audiences since, as it takes place, Bran and Sam realize that Jon is actually Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar and thus, Dany’s nephew. Meanwhile, Jon and Dany are unaware they are actually related.During a recent appearance at the TJH Superhero Comic Con & Car Show this past weekend (via @smoakclarke on Twitter), Clarke revealed a detail about the intimate scene that made it extra awkward.

The Game of Thrones star says that her brother, Bennett Clarke, was on set working in the camera department the same day Dany and Jon’s sex scene was filmed. See what Clarke said below:

I do remember the day, our sex scene day, and my brother was in the camera department that day… And he was on set that day. Kit was like, “Mate, you gotta get him out of here!”

Everything Emilia Clarke Has Said About Game of Thrones’ Intimate Scenes

Game of Thrones Dany Jon Season 7 Finale

Clarke was involved in her fair share of intimate scenes on Game of Thrones, and she has been quite candid about what filming those scenes was like. Because the British actress was 23 years old and relatively unknown when she was cast as Daenerys, she says she felt “pressured” into performing her earlier nude scenes in Game of Thrones, particularly in season 1, and often felt uncomfortable filming them. As the show went on, Clarke filmed fewer intimate scenes.

In Game of Thrones season 6, Clarke felt compelled to perform one final nude scene. The sequence involved Dany burning the down the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen and all the Khal leaders inside before she emerges from the burning building unscathed. Clarke says she was “thrilled” to do the scene because it was “empowering” and “not gratuitous.”

Although Clarke had more ownership of her intimate scenes during the later seasons of Game of Thrones, the sex scene with Jon was still awkward since she and Kit Harington were close friends. This was “unnatural and strange,” as Clarke says, and on top of that, there was the incestual element between the characters and added awkwardness of Clarke’s brother being on set. However, Clarke and Harington remain close friends to this day and continue doing press events together.
