DAKOTA JOHNSON: ‘I REALLY UNDERSTAND 50 SHADES OF GREY’

Dakota Johnson has spoken of her joy at winning the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming adaptation of EL James’ erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The actress pursued the role despite never having read the trilogy – but wasn’t put off by the explicit content once she began research.

“I just really understand it,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly. “I think it’s an incredible love story and that’s why it’s affected so many people.”

“EL James did a really good job of explaining how that just can happen sometimes and you have this chemical pull to someone,” she added.”Adding in the sex makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty and that’s okay.”

The film will see Johnson star opposite Brit actor Jamie Dornan as mysterious billionaire Christian Grey, who replaced Charlie Hunnam in the R-rated role last month.

And it looks like fans who are keen on seeing the more hardcore elements of the books realised on the big screen may get their wish, as producer Dana Brunetti has revealed that a second, more racy, version of the film may be released.

“What we’re kind of hearing from the fans is they want it dirty, they want it as close as possible to the book. We want to keep it elevated but also give the fans what they want,” Brunetti told Collider.

“This is just my opinion and this doesn’t mean this is going to happen, but I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R version and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later.

“Everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well.”
