Chicago PD Season 11: Release Date Prediction, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

The Chicago Fire spinoff Chicago P.D. has already enjoyed 10 successful seasons on NBC, and here’s everything we know about the upcoming season 11.

NBC’s Chicago P.D. has already enjoyed a successful 10-season run on the air, and there are already exciting details about the upcoming Chicago P.D. season 11. Coming as the second installment in producer Dick Wolf’s Chicago series of shows, Chicago P.D. follows the officers of the 21st District who are tasked with cracking some of the biggest cases in the city. Like many of Wolf’s shows, Chicago P.D. shines because it finds the perfect balance between its procedural aspects and its character-centric drama. Many of the show’s familiar cast members have stuck with it from the very beginning, and that sort of continuity is what gives a series long life.

Premiering in 2014, Chicago P.D. built upon the success of its predecessor and even spawned its own spinoff in the form of Chicago Med which continued NBC’s swelling franchise. This franchise aspect has allowed all the Chicago shows to cross over with one another, and they even spilled over into other Wolf productions like Law & Order: SVU. Though reviews for the series have always been primarily positive, Chicago P.D. season 11 can fix the problems that have been nagging the series in later seasons, and take the show in a new direction as it enters its second decade.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 Latest News

Though news about Chicago P.D. season 11 is somewhat scant, the biggest update regarding the One Chicago show comes following the season 10 finale on May 24th, 2023. Season 10 was a milestone achievement for Dirk Wolf’s Chicago Fire spinoff, and Chicago P.D. saw its 200th episode go to air on February 22nd, 2023. The finale of Chicago P.D. season 10 wrapped up the Richard Beck storyline, and it set new storylines in motion that should have an impact going forward. While season 10 wrapped in May, there haven’t been many updates about Chicago P.D. season 11, but it’s still early in the process yet.

There was some Chicago P.D. news regarding a possible change to the schedule planned by NBC, which was to scrap the 10 pm slot of the One Chicago block. Chicago P.D. is the NBC Chicago show that usually airs at 10 pm, but changing that could have drastically broken up the One Chicago block and led to fewer viewers of the show if it was to move to a later time or even a different day. However, NBC has retracted those plans, and it now seems as if Chicago P.D. will continue to air in its usual 10 pm slot.

Chicago P.D. Renewed For Season 11

While all the Chicago shows air their finales on May 24th, fans of the franchise won’t have to wait long for news of new episodes because all Law & Order and Chicago shows were renewed for additional seasons by NBC in April 2023. This news is really no surprise to the NBC faithful, and it speaks to the power of producer Wolf as he has rarely had a misfire when producing for the network. Getting beyond its tenth year is a big deal for a procedural like Chicago P.D., and like its contemporary Law & Order: SVU, it is one step closer to becoming a TV institution.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 Release Date Info

Jesse Lee Soffer's Jay Halstead looks behind in Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 3

Despite the announcement regarding the renewal of Chicago P.D. for its landmark 11th season, no definitive release date has yet to be given. Even in NBC’s Chicago P.D. renewal announcement, the release date was listed vaguely as fall 2023. That time period isn’t unusual for the series, as all but the first season began airing during the fall months. Every season, save for the first and eighth, dropped its first episode in late September and the most likely day in 2023 is either September 20th or 27th since they both fall on a Wednesday.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 Cast

Jason Beghe as Hank Voight in Chicago PD season 10 premiere

According to NBC in their season 11 renewal announcement, no changes have yet to be addressed regarding the cast of Chicago P.D., and it can be assumed that the majority of the season 10 cast will be returning. One actor who has appeared in all 10 seasons is Jason Beghe as Hank Voight, and the sergeant has been the lifeblood of the series for a decade. Patrick John Flueger will also most likely return as Officer Adam Ruzek along with LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater.

Other likely returning cast members include Tracy Spiridakos as Detective Haily Upton and Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess. After being upgraded to a main cast member in season 10, Chicago P.D. season 11 will almost certainly bring back Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dan Torres as well as the familiar face of Amy Morton as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt. It is highly unlikely that Jesse Lee Soffer will return following Jay Halstead’s Chicago P.D. exit early on in season 10. However, it’s not impossible that the long-running character could return at some point.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 Story Details

Though the story for Chicago P.D. season 11 is still up in the air, there are a few things that will most likely be explored in the upcoming season, and the end of Chicago P.D. season 10 created a lot of opportunities for season 11. The fallout regarding Halstead’s departure for Bolivia will undoubtedly be at the forefront of the characters’ minds in season 11, especially Detective Upton as she still tries to handle her emotions in the situation. Additionally, relationships could also either strengthen or weaken in the coming year.

Chicago P.D. season 11 story details will likely revolve around Ruzek’s season 10 cliffhanger, as he was last seen in critical condition after being shot by Cal. The biggest question Chicago P.D. season 11 needs to answer is whether Ruzek is still alive. Not only that, but as Ruzek and Burgess have such a complicated relationship, and marriage has always been a huge, looming question. Season 11 could finally answer that too, but only if Ruzek does survive. One leaked screenshot saw Burgess sitting by Ruzek’s hospital bed, but that wasn’t in the season 10 finale.

Another potential story arc for Chicago P.D. season 11 is Cal seeking revenge for his grandfather’s murder. Cal’s grandfather, Richard Beck, was a white supremacist who was gunned down by black police officer Kevin Atwater. Atwater essentially saved Cal’s life, as the officer managed to get a clean shot despite Beck using Cal as a shield. Nevertheless, Beck’s racism has clearly been passed down to Cal, who looks at Atwater with nothing but disgust in the season 10 finale. There’s no doubt that there’ll be some kind of narrative that reunites the two of them for better or worse in Chicago P.D. season 11.

Additionally, the season has an opportunity to have a new character join the main cast, and that character could come from the long roster of supporting guest stars or appear as an entirely new figure in the Chicago universe. It has also been several seasons since a major crossover between shows, and Chicago P.D. season 11 could play host to the most ambitious crossover event yet and even get all of Wolf’s hit series involved.

Considering the fact that Chicago P.D. season 10 has only just ended, the potential for a season 11 trailer is not going to arrive any time soon. Though the entire Chicago franchise is extremely popular, NBC and other networks don’t tend to start advertising for their new seasons until only a few weeks before the episodes actually start airing. If things follow the usual trajectory that Chicago P.D. has been on for the last 10 seasons, the first teasers and promo images might start coming sometime in August 2023, assuming the show goes to air in September like it usually does.
