Chicago Fire Season 11 Showrunner Teases Severide & Kidd Troubles Coming

Co-showrunner Andrea Newman previews some big trouble coming Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd’s way in the remainder of Chicago Fire season 11.

There are troubles heading Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide’s way on Chicago Fire season 11, co-showrunner Andrea Newman teases. The pair dated for years and went through a lot as a couple until they finally tied the knot in the Chicago Fire season 10 finale. After an attempted-murder scare during the honeymoon, Kidd and Severide are settling back into their old routine at Firehouse 51. However, things aren’t always going to be as peaceful as they are right now.

Chicago Fire season 11 has already dealt with a couple of romances ending. Despite trying to make their long-distance set-up work, Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett ultimately broke up in the closing moments of this year’s premiere. Not long after that, Violet Mikami and Chief Evan Hawkins’ burgeoning love affair was tragically cut short after he tragically died while responding to a fire accident. Amid all of this, Severide and Kidd are doing very well. Despite their respective concerns about tying the knot, both are adjusting nicely to their new life as a married couple.

However, speaking with TVLine, Newman confirms that things are about to get difficult for Severide and Kidd as Chicago Fire season 11 goes on. The showrunner doesn’t get into specifics about what their problems might be, but she floats the idea that it may be too difficult to handle for even a solid couple like them. Read Newman’s full quote below:

These two love each other with everything they’ve got, and support each other through thick and thin. But… there will be a few big wrenches thrown their way as the season progresses, so we’ll have to see how they handle those.

Will Severide & Kidd Break Up In Chicago Fire Season 11?

As impossible as it may sound right now, considering how happy they are, Newman’s quote could be an indication that Severide and Kidd could break up in Chicago Fire season 11. It’s still far too early to say, and the show hasn’t set up anything that could ultimately cause separation for the pair, but the showrunner’s comments could be a preview of what’s to come for the couple. Assuming they end up going their separate ways, either temporarily or permanently, it will be interesting to see what hurdle Kidd and Severide may be facing that would force them apart. As Newman mentions, it’s clear that the newlyweds love each other fiercely, so Chicago Fire would need a justified reason to break them apart.

While watching Severide and Kidd split won’t be fun for their fans, subjecting them to new challenges is important to avoid stagnating the pair’s arc on Chicago Fire. Unfortunately, NBC needs to continue to create drama to keep Dick Wolf’s One Chicago franchise exciting for viewers, and that includes seeing Firehouse 51’s main couple go through trials and tribulations. Hopefully, however, they come out of them stronger than ever instead of split up and heartbroken.
