It’s official: Casey’s exit has completely ruined the dynamics of Chicago Fire for the 2023 season. Jesse Spencer’s departure as Captain Matthew Casey may have happened all the way back in the fall of 2021, but fans are still feeling the absence of his stoic charm in every episode.
The show may have hinted at possible brief appearances from Spencer in the future, but it looks like that’s not enough for devoted Casey fans.
In the latest episode of Chicago Fire, we saw the aftermath of Stella and Sam getting trapped in an exploding house, leading the rest of the team to go searching for them.
It’s clear that Casey’s absence is still being felt, with fans on Twitter and Reddit consistently mentioning how he would have handled the situation. Fan @logiebearswife even tweeted, “Sev needs a Casey hug #ChicagoFire.”
“I miss Casey so much. It’s like a piece of the show is missing without him. No one has been able to take his place,” added fan @chicagofire4addict.
Casey may have been the voice of reason and a balance between comedy and seriousness, but it looks like no one has been able to fill his shoes since his departure. Showrunner Derek Haas may have confirmed that there are no plans to bring Casey back, but that hasn’t stopped fans from hoping for a return.
