ABC’s Rob Mills Teases ‘The Golden Bachelorette’: “Something Will Happen Soon”

The success of The Golden Bachelor has caused many people to call for a spin-off with a female character.

The Golden Bachelorette has been imprinted on viewers’ minds ever since Gerry Turner found love. Unannounced ABC head Rob Mills hinted that a decision was near.

‘The Golden Bachelor’ shines with ABC’s highest unscripted 35-day average viewership in 5 years
“I think something is going to happen,” said Mills, EVP, Unscripted & Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, speaking at the Realscreen event in New Orleans.

However, he cautioned that he wanted to be “really careful” to ensure that the spinoff could be as impactful as The Golden Bachelor.

Bridgette Theriault, Co-Head of Programming and Development for Warner Bros Unscripted TV, told Deadline last year that she would “absolutely love” to see Golden Bachelor spinoffs and positive discussions with ABC took place.

Golden Bachelor marked the strongest average for any season of an ABC unscripted series in five years, since American Idol, with an average of 9.92 million cross-platform viewers across both linear and technical after 35 days of viewing. That marks the strongest average for any season of an ABC unscripted series in five years (since American Idol during its 2019-20 broadcast season).

The series follows 72-year-old Gerry Turner, a retired restaurant owner and widower from Indiana who eventually marries Theresa Nist, a financial services professional from New Jersey.
