Gabby Dawson Became Too Much Of A Focus

Gabby Dawson was a popular character on Chicago Fire, was revered for her ability to overcome difficult situations, and her relationship with Matt Casey kept fans on the edge of their seat for several seasons. Alas, not everyone loved the Gabby-centered storylines.

Redditor QuiJon70 said, “My problem with Gabby was that it totally became the Gabby show…by the time they finally got Gabby and Matt together, that is all that was happening on the show.” Most people fell in love with Matt and Gabby’s lives since their romance seemed to endure, but some people were over their love story before it wrapped up.

Stella Kidd Isn’t Likable

Even though she has one of the best character arcs on Chicago Fire, Stella Kidd is not loved by all viewers. Redditor isla_mcc said, “Severide > Stella; I like Stella, but she rubs me the wrong way sometimes.” Many viewers love that Stella has bounced back from so many hardships, from her abusive ex to becoming an officer in the Chicago Fire Department, making her inspirational and relatable.

Her life with Severide has become a big storyline on the show since so many people love the couple. To some audience members’ dismay, Stella isn’t likely to go anywhere any time soon.

The Side Stories Don’t Work

In recent seasons many of the characters on the show have taken on odd jobs or hobbies that eventually become storylines in the show. This is supposed to make the characters more relatable and make them seem more human since firefighters are often looked at the same way superheroes are, but one fan is over the side stories.

Redditor GypsyMoth606 said, “Bring back the action and stop with these hair-brained side gigs and the supposedly heart-rending relationships. Nix that crap; I’d rather watch the guys grocery shop.”

Too Much Romance

Some of the best episodes of Chicago Fire include couples getting together after fighting their feelings for much of the season; this has become a pivotal part of the show that most fans look forward to as new people are added to the firehouse. Redditor sleepy_cinderlla said, “I hate how many inter-house romances there are,” but the romances add a constant sense of anticipation to the show.

Fans keep coming back to see which couple will come together or fall apart next. Even though it happens repeatedly, most fans can’t get enough of the love stories accompanying the intense fire scenes.

Chili’s Character

Chili was one of the most unlikeable characters on Chicago Fire, as she was often combative with her superiors and put her fellow medics in dangerous positions. Many viewers well received her departure from the show as it released tension that had never been part of it.

But Redditor ginnyweasley777 said, “I like Chili now I’m doing a rewatch,” not many agree with this opinion, given that Chili caused so many unnecessary issues within the firehouse. Chili had few redeeming qualities; even though the show explained the reasons for her sour attitude, she was hard to like.

Otis Is Hateable

Otis was a beloved character on the show, and his death marked one of the most emotional scenes in Chicago Fire history. Otis was not only comic relief but the character that everyone was friends with; he was an unlikely hero who was always ready to help his fellow firefighter.

Almost everyone loved his character except Redditor Ta-veren, who said, “Hated Otis is probably my biggest unpopular opinion.” Otis was the underdog of the firehouse, which makes it hard to believe any One Chicago fan would not love seeing him on their screens weekly.

Gallo & Violet Are A Tired RomanceBlake Gallo kneeling down and smiling in Chicago Fire

One of Chicago Fire’s main storylines at the moment revolves around Gallo and Violet and whether they can make their relationship work as friends or if they will become romantically involved. Since most of the main characters are paired off, this storyline has the most tension and excitement in the show.

However, Redditor Ribena41 isn’t feeling the love; they said, “Gallo/Violet hook up is getting old,” most people still find the plot fresh since there have been other focuses besides this couple until the end of season 9 and the start of season 10.

Matt Casey Isn’t A Great Character

Matt Casey was the centerpiece of Chicago Fire from the show’s very first episode. With every character that died in Chicago Fire, Casey was affected in some way which made him sympathetic, but also his drive to do what was right no matter what made him a true hero to many fans.

However, Casey’s altruistic personality didn’t connect with every viewer; Redditor aqvamarine13 said, “I’ve never really liked Casey. I don’t think he’s a bad person or anything; he’s just too…much for me, I guess.” Casey had a big, which pulled him away from Chicago and was a tough loss for most fans, which is why this comment was so unpopular.

Severide Isn’t Kidd’s Best Match

One of Chicago Fire’s longest and best storylines revolves around Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd building their relationship from friends to lovers and eventually getting married. Their love story was not linear, which kept fans invested in the couple, but one Redditor feels Stella isn’t the one Kelly should have ended up with; they said, “Kelly has had better relationships with every other girl he’s been with than with Stella.”

Before Stella, Kelly only had two serious relationships on the show, so it is hard to say anyone else was a better match for him.

It Was Fine That Shay Died

Leslie Shay was an extremely popular character on the show, and her friendship with Severide was one that fans connected with immediately to the point that they felt like they lost a friend when she was killed off the show.

Most fans agree she shouldn’t have been written off the show; however, Redditor aqvamarine13 stands alone, saying, “killing off Shay was the right move; it was just the wrong time. We needed another half season to tie her story off.” Given that Severide and Shay were on bad terms when she died, no one wanted to see her go, but the writers felt differently.
