Yellowstone Gets Exciting Update on Final Episodes

Governor Dutton in Yellowstone season 5
Fans of Yellowstone are waiting to see how the series ends, which will happen with the upcoming second part of Season 5. The series has taken a big step with wrapping up the show with cameras rolling on the final episodes.

Per Deadline, production has officially started on Season 5, Part 2 of Yellowstone in Montana. The update comes as the show has been on hiatus since January 2023, and the final batch of episodes is expected to debut in November. The delay in filming could also potentially open the door for Kevin Costner to return after all for the end of the series following his controversial exit last year. More recently, Costner attributed his exit to scheduling conflicts with his new Western epic, Horizon: An American Saga. He also confirmed his desire to return as John Dutton.
“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to … I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five,” the actor said, per Entertainment Tonight. “So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

Kevin Costner Isn’t Expected to Appear in the Final Episodes
If Costner returns for the final episodes, it would likely be in a limited capacity, as continued conflicts with Horizon could prevent a comeback. Currently, Costner is filming the third installment of Horizon, and he may not be able to find the time to get involved with Yellowstone. Certainly, a cameo at the very least from Costner in the series finale would do a lot to satisfy longtime fans, especially given how the expectation at this point is that the actor will not be appearing at all.
In any case, the Yellowstone franchise will continue on past the series finale of the TV show. Along with a second season of the prequel series 1923, there will be a new spinoff that will follow Yellowstone, tentatively titled 2024. Matthew McConaughey has been in talks to lead the new spinoff, according to reports. However, that’s not official, as the latest word on the reported casting is that McConaughey is waiting to see a finished script before officially signing on. Reportedly, Michelle Pfeiffer is also up for a major role in the spinoff.
