Screen Rant is proud to exclusively present the official Will Trent featurette. Will Trent is based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best-selling novel series of the same name. The series follows Will Trent, one of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s best agents with keen observational skills and a mind for mysteries; he has the highest clearance rate at the GBI. Haunted by his past traumas from growing up in Georgia’s foster care system, Will knows what it feels like to be abandoned and refuses to let anyone else feel the same, even a stray dog.
When Will brings a stray Chihuahua to what he believes to be a no-kill shelter only to learn that isn’t the case, he is unable to leave the small canine to a possibly deadly fate. While Will may be masterful in his professional life, his personal life is another story. He has a hard time making friends, but he shares a close bond with his childhood friend, detective Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen). His boss, Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn), has faith in his skills and partners him with street-smart and battle-tested Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson).
More About Will Trent
Screen Rant’s exclusive Will Trent featurette includes star Ramón Rodríguez alluding to Will working through his complicated past through the cases he works. The featurette gives intriguing new insight into the ABC police procedural, including what drew the stars to their characters. Christensen shares that one of the first things she read about her character Angie Polaski was “Angie thinks you’re an idiot.” This single sentence reveals a lot about the character, including how she sees herself and those around her in the world. Slaughter, author and executive producer, praises Rodríguez’s performance, explaining how his understanding of Will brings his performance to life.
Will Trent may seem invulnerable when he is analyzing a crime scene, but he struggles with dyslexia and the influence of his past. In the first episode, Will is assigned a homicide, and while reading the crime scene, he discovers that this case is bigger than anyone knew, announcing that there has been a kidnapping along with the murder. Will’s past is more than the usual motivation in this case, with one of his childhood bullies from the group home involved.
Will Trent stars Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner. Will Trent is executive produced by Liz Heldens, Dan Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, and Oly Obst. Will Trent premiered Tuesday, January 3, with new episodes every Tuesday.
New episodes of Will Trent premiere on ABC Tuesdays 10/9c.
