During an interview with TVLine following the release of Will Trent season 2, episode 7, Ramón Rodríguez, who plays the show’s eponymous character, teased what’s to come in the finale. While the actor’s comments entice excitement about what will happen in the last episode, they also make season 3’s delayed release date even more disappointing. When discussing the season 2 ending, Rodríguez said:
“There’s a bit of a cliffhanger, without a doubt. Season 2, towards the end of it, as we’re putting together the whole idea of what happened through this childhood trauma — this flashback, this memory that he’d blocked out — there’s some things that [Will] gains, which is great , and there are some things that he loses, which is not great.”
According to Rodríguez, Will Trent season 2 will end on a cliffhanger. Of course, a shocking ending with no resolution isn’t too surprising, given how this season has played out with revealing traumatic moments from Will’s past and the recent developments in Will and Angie’s relationship. Plus, even the Will Trent season 2 premiere featured a surprising ending, and the first episode shouldn’t outdo the last. However, the fact that the finale will leave viewers hanging means they will be waiting in anticipation of what happens next and won’t get until 2025, further upsetting fans.

As fans recall, Will finally put the pieces of his repressed memory together during Will Trent season 2, episode 8, and it was even more disturbing than anyone could ever imagine. Will had been experiencing flashes of a forgotten memory from his childhood all season, and a case he worked on in the eighth episode helped him finally solve the puzzle. When he was a young teenager, Will had a foster mom, Anna, who treated him well (unlike his other foster parents). But Anna’s partner, Jack, was abusive, so, Will hid his foster dad’s gun to protect her.

One night when Jack was hurting Anna, Will grabbed the gun and shot Jack in the arm. Jack wrestled the weapon away from Will, beat him with it, and almost killed him, but Anna intervened. Sadly, Jack ended up shooting and murdering Anna, and Will felt responsible for his foster mother’s death. Consequently, his brain repressed the memory, making him forget about it until now. Will’s uncle Antonio brought him to Puerto Rico in episode 9 as an escape from the rediscovered trauma, but Will’s backstory will return in the Will Trent season 2 finale. Ramón Rodríguez told TVLine:
“In [episode] eight, we get to see the culmination of this childhood trauma that Will has blocked from his memory. [It] gets put together — what that meant and signified — and it’s intense. And we do get a reprieve, we do get a moment to sort of come up for air, but very quickly [we] get pulled down under water again with a really intense twist and turn. I don’t know how much I can talk about it, but I will say it’s a really intense ending [to the season] that I don’t think people will see coming, and it’s a case that pays off in a really tough way.”
