“‘Will Trent’ Is About to Explode: Ramón Rodríguez Hints at Shocking Twists and a Brutal Elevator Fight”

Ramón Rodríguez Talks G20 Action, Working with Viola Davis, and Teases ‘Will Trent’ Shocks Ahead

Prime Video’s upcoming action-packed thriller G20 is about to hit screens, and Ramón Rodríguez is ready to bring the heat. As Agent Manny Ruiz, he’s at the forefront of a high-stakes mission to thwart a terrorist takeover at the prestigious G20 summit in Cape Town, alongside none other than Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, who portrays President Danielle Sutton.

Rodríguez’s career has spanned across television and film, earning him widespread recognition for his roles in iconic series like The Wire and Rescue Me, as well as notable films such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Battle: Los Angeles. His most recent success is starring as the title character in ABC’s Will Trent, a role that has captured the hearts of viewers and critics alike.

Ahead of G20‘s release, Rodríguez sat down with Collider’s Steven Weintraub to discuss his exciting journey through the world of action films, his incredible experience working with Viola Davis, and, of course, to tease what fans can expect next on Will Trent.

Early Career Moments and The Wire

Rodríguez’s early career is marked by a standout role in HBO’s The Wire, widely considered one of the greatest television series of all time. Reflecting on his time working on the critically acclaimed drama, Rodríguez shared his gratitude for the role, especially his time working alongside the late Michael K. Williams, who portrayed the unforgettable Omar Little.

“It was a very special experience early on in my career,” Rodríguez said. “I was spoiled by The Wire. I was like, ‘Oh, every show is going to be like this,’ but I quickly learned that The Wire was one of a kind.” His experience on the show allowed him to film in his home country of Puerto Rico, where he had the chance to work with Williams in a deeply meaningful way. The bond they shared, especially in a challenging environment like the streets of Baltimore, left a lasting impact on Rodríguez.

He also highlighted The Wire‘s revolutionary approach to storytelling, lauding David Simon’s writing and the show’s raw portrayal of urban life. “It was incredible. I had the privilege of being part of something that transcends television.”

G20: Action, Intensity, and Viola Davis

In G20, Rodríguez steps into the role of a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting the president during a terrorist crisis. While the action thriller may deliver on popcorn-worthy excitement, Rodríguez was determined to make his portrayal grounded and authentic.

“Being a Secret Service agent comes with immense responsibility,” he explained. “It’s 24/7. You’re with the president more than their own family, and you see the highs and lows of their life. It’s a stressful job, but one that requires dedication and resilience.”

Rodríguez shared his experience working with Viola Davis, describing her as not only a “powerhouse” of an actress but also as someone who brings both warmth and wisdom to the set. “From day one, Viola welcomed me with open arms. We trained together, doing martial arts and jiu-jitsu, which was a great way to build rapport,” Rodríguez said. “She’s incredibly funny, too, which I didn’t expect. We had a great time on set, and I’m lucky to call her a friend.”

As for the physical demands of the film, Rodríguez teased an intense elevator fight scene that pushed the limits of both the actors and the crew. “Fighting in a small space like an elevator is no joke. It was one of the hardest scenes I had to film, but the excitement on set was palpable. You could tell people were hyped up for it,” he revealed.

What’s Next for Will Trent?

In addition to his action-packed G20 role, Rodríguez is gearing up for some intense moments on Will Trent. The hit ABC series, which has garnered a loyal following, has more drama and action in store for its fans. When asked about what’s coming up for his character, Rodríguez gave a teasing glimpse of what viewers can expect.

“There are some really intense moments coming up,” he said, hinting at high-stakes situations and character arcs that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. “We’ve just wrapped up a tough episode, and trust me, it’s only going to get wilder from here. High highs, low lows—there’s a lot in store for Will and his team.”

While Rodríguez remains tight-lipped about specific plot details, he assured fans that the upcoming episodes would continue to elevate the show’s emotional depth and thrilling storylines.

Building the G20 Legacy

As the countdown to G20‘s premiere on April 10 begins, Rodríguez reflected on what it means to be part of such a high-profile project, especially one that features strong female leadership with Viola Davis at the helm.

“It’s rare to see a president character like Danielle Sutton—someone who not only holds power but can also take matters into her own hands when needed. That’s the power of Viola’s performance,” Rodríguez said, nodding to Davis’s commanding presence in the film. “This is a movie that combines heart, action, and tension—there’s something for everyone.”

In G20, viewers can expect a rollercoaster of emotions, sharp action sequences, and a dynamic relationship between Rodríguez’s Agent Ruiz and Davis’s President Sutton, setting the stage for a thrilling ride from start to finish. As Rodríguez puts it, “If you love intense action with heart and real characters, G20 has everything you need.”

As Will Trent continues to make waves on ABC, Rodríguez is eager to keep pushing the envelope, delivering even more jaw-dropping moments and emotional turns in both shows.

G20 is now streaming on Prime Video, and Will Trent fans have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming season. Stay tuned!
