Delilah Fielding-McGee, played by Margo Harshman, appeared to be sitting in a wheelchair in the latest episode of NCIS. For the unversed, she is a recurring character and an employee of the Department of Defense. She initially struck a connection with Special Agent Tim McGee (played by Sean Murray), and they ultimately got married. However, a tragedy struck her in Season 11, ultimately paralyzing her. This has made many wonder more about what happened to her character in the series.
Why is McGee’s wife in a wheelchair in NCIS?
McGee’s wife, Delilah, was injured in a bombing incident, which left her paralyzed and now reliant on a wheelchair.
Season 11, Episode 13, titled “Homesick,” featured Delilah’s work in counterterrorism being celebrated at a gala. Unexpectedly, Tony DiNozzo calls Tim McGee to inform him about a potential bombing attack, conducted by terrorist Benham Parsa, at the hotel where Delilah’s work was being honored.
A shocked McGee puts his life on the line to get people out safely. However, Delilah falls victim to the bombing attack, as she didn’t leave the hotel in time. She was in critical condition and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Although she survived, it was learned that a piece of shrapnel had damaged her spinal cord, which led to her paralysis. Following this brutal incident, she now makes use of a green wheelchair for mobility.
Is the actress who plays Delilah in NCIS paralyzed in real life?
Margo Harshman is not paralyzed in real life; only her character, Delilah, is.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Gary Glasberg revealed that the tragic storyline, which had Delilah at the center of it in NCIS, was inspired by a real bombing attack. He confirmed that the storyline took inspiration from the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Harshman has been a part of NCIS since Season 10. Apart from this beloved procedural drama series, she is also notably known for playing Tawny Dean on Even Stevens and Alex Jensen on The Big Bang Theory.
