Who Plays Cyrus On General Hospital? Where You’ve Seen The Actor Before

Played by character actor Jeff Kober, Cyrus Renault is a dangerous crime boss and drug kingpin, as well as one of the most notorious villains in recent General Hospital memory. Cyrus has caused serious trouble for the families in Port Charles, especially Sonny and Jason, who have made many attempts to thwart his nefarious plans. Making his debut on the long-running TV series in 2020, Cyrus has only grown as a formidable antagonist. Even after Cyrus supposedly discovered religion, the Port Charles residents continued to be harassed by his crimes, most recently framing Elizabeth Webber for murders he committed himself.

With his distinctive features, Kober is one of the most recognizable faces in the TV and film industry. Often playing villains, Kober’s ability to emit a sinister presence has given him a leg up in being offered plenty of antagonist roles. Those who are regular watchers of General Hospital will probably be able to point him out as a familiar face — one attached to a number of other movie and TV projects.

Remy (New Girl)

Remy Is Jess & Nick’s Amorous Landlord

The cast staring at Remy the landlord in New Girl

As Remy the landlord in New Girl, Jeff Kober played a very different character than the one he portrays in General Hospital. Remy’s first appearance is in season 1, episode 12, aptly titled, “The Landlord” when Jess decides to call the landlord to fix some broken things in the loft. Remy makes a very strong impression due to his intimidating presence and surly demeanor but soon warms up to Jess and Nick — although maybe a bit too much. Before they know it, the roommates are playing a game of chicken when Remy invites them to have a threesome.

Remy may only appear in a few episodes, but he made a big impression as a hilariously creepy but still helpful landlord, and his was a New Girl storyline that should have continued. Kober is surprisingly at home in the comedic role of Remy, especially when he so often portrays villains, and it’s sad New Girl audiences didn’t get to see more of him.

Rack (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

A Magic Dealer Who Got In Dark Willow’s Crosshairs

Rack (Jeff Kober) holding a magic object in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will likely recognize Jeff Kober as Rack, the magical drug dealer who played an integral role in the Dark Willow storyline of season 6. A dangerous warlock, Rack’s name inspired fear even in the hearts of demons. From his magical den, Rack supplied Willow with sinister magic.

Already abusing her powers, Willow soon became addicted to the magic provided by Rack. She hit rock bottom after she got Dawn into a serious car accident while high on his magic. But this wasn’t the last of Rack on the show. After Warren Mears failed to kill Buffy, he went to Rack for magical protection.

The warlock agreed but warned Warren that Willow was the one he should be afraid of — especially because Warren accidentally killed Willow’s girlfriend, Tara, when he went after the Slayer. To confirm his suspicions, Rack met his end when Willow (as Dark Willow) siphoned all the power from Rack’s body and absorbed it for herself.

Jacob Hale, Jr. (Sons of Anarchy)

Kober’s Jacob Was A Corrupt Villain Who Went Up Against SAMCRO

Jacob Hale Jr (Jeff Kober) from Sons of Anarchy glaring at somene

In one of his biggest roles to date, Kober played corrupt businessman Jacob Hale, Jr. in the motorcycle crime drama, Sons of Anarchy. Taking advantage of his little brother’s status as Deputy Police Chief, Jacob Jr. is as sleazy as they come. He will go to any lengths to oust the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, including bringing in the white supremacist group, League of American Nationalists. When his brother David is killed as a result of a gang war, Jacob seeks to put an end to the motorcycle club for good.

Throughout seasons 3 and 4, the Sons of Anarchy hinder the villain’s plans at every turn. Jacob becomes desperate as he makes his bid for the mayoral seat, going so far as to hire a thug to rough up the elderly Lumpy who refuses to sell his business so that Jacob can build a luxury homes complex.

Despite their rivalry, SAMCO and Jacob eventually form a tentative alliance after Jacob becomes the mayor of Charming in season 5. In exchange for leasing property to start an escort service, Jax agrees to blackmail one of Jacob’s rivals and help find him an investor for his Charming Heights project.

Kober’s character left the show abruptly after season 6 of Sons of Anarchy, but he was still a large influence across the series. Where rival biker gangs came and went, Jacob Hale, Jr. was always there to be an obstacle in the way of SAMCO’s devices.

Joe (The Walking Dead)

The Villainous Leader Of The Claimers

Jeff Kober proved his aptitude for villainous roles while playing Joe in season 4 of The Walking Dead, the leader of a group called the Claimers. His sadistic and violent nature made him a formidable foe of Rick Grimes and company, rivaled only by the later arrival of Negan in season 6. He first appeared in season 4, episode 11, “Claimed,” when he and his group found Rick, Michonne, and Carl living in an abandoned house. When Rick kills a member of the group named Lou, Joe vows to kill Rick as revenge.

Later running into Daryl, Joe recruits him into his ranks. He tells Daryl the rules of the group, including that “claiming” whatever they want makes it theirs. When the Claimers catch up to Rick, Carl, and Michonne, Joe goes to shoot Rick but is stopped by Daryl. As punishment, Joe orders his followers to beat Daryl to death, then rape Michonne and Carl. Thankfully, Rick and his allies manage to get the upper hand, killing Joe and the Claimers before continuing on their way.

Jeff Kober’s Other Roles

He Had Recurring Roles On Falcon Crest & China Beach

Over his long career, Jeff Kober has appeared in a plethora of TV shows and movies. Though his TV appearances were often single-episode guest spots, there were a few cases in which he had a recurring role. One of his first recurring roles was in the ‘80s soap opera, Falcon Crest, where he played Guy Stafford, a hired hitman. His next big TV role was on the medical war drama, China Beach, playing traumatized soldier Evan “Dodger” Winslow.

Kober would go on to appear in other famous TV series, including MacGyver, The X-Files, Walker: Texas Ranger, Charmed, Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise, Law and Order: SVU, Supernatural, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Chicago Med, and many other well-known titles. He also has a number of film credits to his name, such as The Hills Have Eyes 2, Hidalgo, Tank Girl, and Enough. Though he doesn’t have any upcoming credits on his IMDb page, Jeff Kober is likely having a blast terrorizing the good people of Port Charles in General Hospital.
