What’s Going On? Grey’s Anatomy Makes Viewers “Choose Sides” Like In A Game

Given that it’s Grey’s Anatomy’s messiest couple that we’re talking about, I guess we should’ve seen it coming. Of course Teddy and Owen managed to make a complete and total disaster of their open marriage in only a single episode (recapped here). Now we in the audience are left to take sides, and it’s hella awkward, because for once, I don’t think we can be mad at Kevin McKidd’s polarizing character.

Yes, Owen did sleep with his crush Nora whereas Teddy hit the brakes before going all the way with her crush Cass. But that was what his wife had said that she wanted — for them to be able to hook up with other people. They weren’t to form any attachments or exchange any details, it was supposed to be just sex.

I get why Kim Raver’s on-screen counterpart would be upset that the open-marriage idea had immediately put her husband to bed with another woman while it had only made her realize that she wanted to shut that door (and lock it). However, it still felt unfair that in Thursday’s episode (recapped here), she acted as if he’d betrayed her. He hadn’t. He’d followed the rules that she set forth and had every expectation that his better half was off doing the same.

It would have been nice if Teddy had been able to step back and say, “OK, ouch. But lesson learned. Nothing happened that I didn’t green-light. Moving on… ” Instead, she behaved more like Owen had schtupped someone else on their wedding day — and that was her thing, not his. (Right, Koracick?) What do you think?
