Nick Marsh on Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most dynamic and significant characters introduced in recent seasons of the hospital drama. Surgeon Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has always met with a huge number of patients, by virtue of her job, but not many of them make this kind of lasting impression. After losing her soulmate, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and following her best friends Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) moving away, Meredith wasn’t always accepting of new people.
Scott Speedman has played many TV characters in his career, including Matthew Engler in season 3 of You, Ben Covington in the emotional late 1990s/early 2000s college drama Felicity, and Barry “Baz” Blackwell on Animal Kingdom. He also had a major big-screen role as Michael Corvin in the Underworld franchise. These characters range from love interests, like Ben, to big mysteries, such as Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) neighbor Matthew on You. Meredith meets Nick, a transplant surgeon, during his own medical emergency in Grey’s Anatomy season 14, episode 17, “One Day Like This.” He comes to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to give one of his own patients a liver, but when he faints, it becomes clear that he received his own kidney transplant a few weeks earlier. Immediately, Nick’s passion for his career and inability to stand still becomes clear, as he shares that he was told to rest, but he didn’t want to stop working.
Meredith shows her strengths as a doctor when she sees that Nick’s kidney isn’t receiving any blood because his renal vein has a clot. While Meredith has dated since Derek’s death in Grey’s Anatomy season 11, episode 21, “How To Save A Life,” she hasn’t found the lasting connection that she shared with him. In her first interactions with Nick, it appears that she has met a good match.
Nick is as ambitious as Meredith, which is reminiscent of Derek.

Nik Marsh later becomes a bigger character in Grey’s Anatomy when he and Meredith begin dating in season 18. While bad things happen to couples on Grey’s Anatomy given the show’s emotional center and intense tone, Nick and Meredith have a strong connection and a positive start to their romance. They bump into one another at a restaurant and have a real conversation right away, with Meredith explaining that after living through COVID-19 she is overwhelmed by the assumption that her life must be big, exciting, and brave because of what she has experienced.

From getting to know Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) to helping Zola (Aniela Gumbs) with anxiety, he wants Meredith’s family to like and accept him.

Nick & Meredith Are At Different Parts In Their Lives
Nick has proven that he is a kind-hearted and thoughtful person, as he would be happy to live in Seattle or Minnesota as long as he can build a life with Meredith. However, in seasons 18 and 19, the couple has disagreements over their future. After working on a trial to research Parkinson’s, Dr. David Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) asks Meredith to work at the Mayo Clinic. The ending of Grey’s Anatomy season 18 sees Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) hiring Meredith as Chief.
The couple is at an impasse because Meredith is uncertain about where her family should live.
She says, “I know I’m still in love with you,” and, “I’ll say it, as many times as I need to hear it,” and he asks her to go have dinner. Meredith asked Nick to come with her to an event that Zola is part of, but it’s clear that their problems had not been solved.

Meredith Went To Reconnect With Nick
Grey’s Anatomy was never the same after Meredith left Grey Sloan midway through the 19th season of the show, and her relationship with Nick Marsh on Grey’s Anatomy seemingly ended. It was also a sad moment because Nick told her he loved her over the phone, and she pretended not to hear him. Meredith was then gone to Boston and Nick remained on to keep his job as director of the residency program at Grey Sloan.

With Ellen Pompeo gone, it seemed it was time for Nick to move on with his own life and put that chapter behind him. However, that isn’t how Grey’s Anatomy season 19 ended. Nick and a handful of others headed to Boston for the Catherine Fox Awards, where they would see Meredith and Maggie Pierce again. On the way there, Amelia told Nick that he made Meredith happy, but Nick said that she had a funny way of showing it.
When Nick arrived, he found a new man (Michael) at Meredith’s apartment. However, when Nick and Meredith met up later, she admitted she heard him say he loved her, and she was scared, and then she said she missed him. She let him know Michael was Zola’s tutor, and then they shared a kiss. This leads to many possibilities for the future of Meredith and Nick. They could carry on in a long-distance relationship to see if this could work. It would keep Nick Marsh on Grey’s Anatomy season 20 and give the show a reason to bring back Meredith every so often.

Nick & Meredith Might Finally Be Taking The Next Step
There is great news for fans of Nick Marsh on Grey’s Anatomy as it was reported that Scott Speedman is returning to the hospital drama for at least five episodes in season 21. From the sound of it, Meredith and Nick might finally be moving in together to solidify their relationship. Speedman was in four episodes in season 20, so this is more appearances, and it follows Ellen Pompeo signing a deal to appear in the new season as well. Pompeo’s Meredith is no longer a main character in the series.
