Betrayal, Secrets, and Truth: Will Trent’s Undercover Mission at Olas Collective.
Will Trent enters what feels like the middle chapter of a tense, three-part storyline. After last week’s heartbreaking event where Will accidentally caused a child’s death, this week’s episode sees him grappling with the consequences while investigating a new case linked to a mysterious wellness retreat. Let’s dive into this gripping episode, Season 3, Episode 12: “You’re the Worst Person In the World,” written by Laura Snow.
The episode opens with two women, Jade (Katy Wilson) and Aster (Dana Elaine), fleeing through the woods. Jade appears to be in poor health, and Aster struggles to start the truck as she attempts to get Jade help. But things take a tragic turn when a rifle shot shatters the truck’s rear window, fatally wounding Jade in the head.
Meanwhile, Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) is forced to attend a mandated psychological session with Dr. Martin (Gray Hawk), a therapy appointment he clearly dreads. Will gets frustrated when Dr. Martin asks him to associate his emotions with colors on a “feel wheel,” and he storms out early. Outside the clinic, Will’s boss, Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn), is waiting for him with the task of keeping him on desk duty for now. Will insists that returning to the field is the only thing that could help him move forward, but Amanda rejects his request.
Back at the office, Will is once again left to review old open cases with the help of his AI assistant, Eduardo. Marion Alba (Gina Rodriguez) drops by to cheer him up, suggesting they go see a movie together. Will, however, shuts down her offer, not allowing her to be there for him the way she has before. Meanwhile, Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) gives Will a stern reminder: they’re stuck together, and their issues will have to be dealt with.
On a new case, Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) and Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) respond to a report about a truck with broken windows and two unconscious individuals inside. The truck rolled into a yard, hitting a tree. The driver is dead, and the passenger—Jade—has a pulse. Angie discovers that Jade’s medical records reveal she is a Kindergarten teacher, but her life is shrouded in mystery. Will overhears a seemingly minor detail about Aster’s tapeworm, but he can’t quite recall why it’s significant.
Angie tracks down Jade’s estranged sister, Sydney (Stefanie Butler), who reveals that Jade had been struggling with infertility and miscarriages, which led to her withdrawing from family life. A cold letter from Jade severed their relationship entirely.
Meanwhile, during a lunch with her new boyfriend, Dr. Seth McDale (Scott Foley), Angie is caught off guard when Ormewood, Faith, and Will show up. There’s a palpable tension when Will learns Angie has started dating someone new. Ormewood has discovered that the truck owner, Dermot, is also deceased, and Faith uncovers that both Aster and Dermot had been to the Olas Collective, a wellness retreat. Will is struck by the connection to tapeworms, which was present in both Aster and Dermot’s medical history, though he can’t quite piece everything together.
Later, Will, now deep into the case, has a disturbing daydream where he imagines a cozy moment with Marion. But the illusion quickly shatters, and Will is pulled back into painful memories of Marco (Tony Aparicio), the child he accidentally shot. In a fit of emotion, Will goes into his bathroom, takes something from his medicine cabinet, and collapses in tears on the floor.
Unable to sleep, Will continues to investigate, using Eduardo to dig deeper into the Olas Collective’s financial connections. He discovers that Jade, Aster, and Dermot all made payments to the retreat. The next morning, Faith approaches Marion, asking her to release Jeremy, her son, from his confidential informant status, but Marion refuses, warning that it would be illegal.
Angie and Ormewood track down Dermot’s old friend, Kyle (Gunner Willis), who shares unsettling details. Dermot had sought help at the Olas Collective after a breakup, and just before his death, Dermot sent Kyle a desperate letter and a frantic phone call, fearing he was being watched.
Will decides to visit the Olas Collective in person, posing as “Bill Morales.” He’s welcomed by the retreat’s founder, Rain Woods (Robin Weigert), and invited to join a group therapy session. During the session, Quincy (Anthony S. Goolsby) opens up about the trauma of his son’s suicide, which was triggered by finding his father’s gun. Rain consoles him, affirming that it’s okay to feel like the worst person in the world sometimes. Her words resonate with Will, as she tells the group that trauma doesn’t define them; they define their trauma.
Back at the GBI, Will shares his findings about the Olas Collective with Amanda, though he doesn’t disclose that he visited the retreat. He reveals that the organization owns several properties, one of which is near where Aster’s body was discovered. Angie, Faith, and Ormewood agree to investigate further.
The team travels to a 40-acre plot owned by Olas Collective, only to come under gunfire from an unknown shooter hiding in the trees. The shooter, a teenage girl named Finn (Laila Pruitt), is captured and brou
ght in for questioning. Rain appears, with a baby in tow, claiming custody of Finn. She denies knowing Aster, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. Amanda grows frustrated, especially when she learns that Rain cares for 13 minors, many of whom have troubled backgrounds.
The investigation continues, with Scott revealing that Jade’s condition at the hospital was the result of retained placental tissue—indicating she recently gave birth. Angie and Faith suspect that Rain’s baby might be Jade’s. Meanwhile, Ormewood wonders how Rain could be breastfeeding the child if it wasn’t hers. Seth offers a possible explanation, but Will realizes the only way to uncover the truth is to go undercover at Olas Collective.
Will finally admits to Amanda that he went to the retreat and asks for permission to infiltrate the organization. She provides him with a solar-powered satellite phone and warns him to check in within 48 hours. If he doesn’t, she will send in a drone. Will, ever the loner, tells Amanda he killed a child, offering a rare glimpse into the emotional weight he’s carrying. Amanda, sensing Will’s fragile state, urges him to take care of himself.
That night, Will shares an emotional farewell with Marion before heading to the Olas Collective. She expresses concern for him, and though she tells him she loves him, Will remains distant, apologizing for not being the partner she deserves. Marion suggests they take a break, which leaves Will in turmoil.
Will arrives at Olas Collective, where he shares a slightly modified version of his painful story about killing a child. As expected, Rain comforts him, offering him a place at the retreat. As the episode closes, Will and the other new members are loaded onto a bus, blindfolded and whisked away to an unknown destination.
Next Episode: “One of Us Now” – Will digs deeper into Olas Collective, reporting shocking truths to Amanda. Meanwhile, the APD closes in on the cult’s leaders, setting the stage for a confrontation that could turn everything upside down.
