Tracker star Melissa Roxburgh addresses her possible return as Dorian “Dory” Shaw, the younger sister of Justin Hartley’s titular character, Colter Shaw. Roxburgh made a guest appearance in the series in season 1, episode 11, “Beyond the Campus Walls,” where she helps Colter on a case to track down a missing grad student at the school where she works. While Colter’s elder brother, Russell (Jensen Ackles), successfully returned in season 2, Roxburgh’s Dory has yet to be seen in this season.
In an interview with TVLine, Roxburgh shared her thoughts on her potential return, expressing willingness on her part after having great experience working with Hartley. Talking about her character, the actor believed that there are “a lot of different ways” to go with Dory, especially since she’s someone with “secrets.” In addition to working with Hartley, Roxburgh hopes for a Supernatural reunion with Ackles, who she worked with when she played Lila in season 7. Check out what she said below:
I hope so. It was such a good set and Justin’s obviously wonderful, so I hope Dory makes a reappearance. There’s a lot of different ways they could go with the character. Dory has some secrets. She’s not being forthcoming about things, so I want to know what happens there, and I want to know what happened to the Dad… all those answers.
One of my first jobs ever was with Jensen, on Supernatural, so it’d be a nice ‘full circle’ moment.
What Roxburgh’s Comment Means For Dory’s Return In Tracker Season 2
She Might Be In Time To Return In Season 2
Tracker’s family tease is at the center of the show’s overarching arc and serves as a main intrigue in season 1. Roxburgh’s comment highlights the pending nature of the main storyline, suggesting the high likelihood for the show to circle back to it at some point. Character-wise, Dory’s character arc is at the beginning stage, and being the main character’s sister means that there’s a very high chance for her to return.
Roxburgh, who’s also in NBC’s The Hunting Party, finished filming the ten-episode in November, which means that she’s likely to be available, schedule-wise, to return as Dory. Tracker executive producer Elwood Reid previously promised to “unpeel some more stuff with [Colter’s] sister” in season 2, while Hartley has teased that her appearance might be “toward the end of the season 2” if the star’s schedule allows. So far, Dory has yet to show up in Tracker season 2, but it seems that Dory may appear in the latter half.
Our Take On Dory’s Return In Tracker
Dory Needs To Return To Tracker
Dory, just like the rest of the Shaw family, isn’t big on opening up about her feelings. While the suspense and the wait can be frustrating, the Shaws’ collective mystery also serves as one of the biggest intrigues in Tracker. Just like what Roxburgh said, there’s still so much to know about Dory, and it would be nice to see her again in season 2, especially alongside Russell. However, that’s more challenging, given Ackles’ busy schedule.
With Dory being Colter’s younger sister and someone connected to their father’s mystery, it seems that she’s bound to return at some point. Even if Dory isn’t in season 2, she’ll likely reappear again since she is a very important character. Plus, a Tracker season 3 seems likely since it’s one of CBS’ highest-viewed shows. On the other hand, Dory isn’t going to magically open up in one episode, which means that it’ll likely take several episodes to fully unpack the character.
