Terry Crews gives his biggest fan the first golden buzzer of America’s Got Talent season 19

One lucky America’s Got Talent contestant has gotten the first golden buzzer of the season – from his comedy idol, nonetheless.

Learnmore Jonasi performed a stand-up set during the premiere that had the audience and judges in stitches. Before going on, Learnmore told the camera that Terry was his idol and he watched Terry’s film White Chicks with his grandparents back home in Africa. He brought up the iconic scene where Terry’s character lip-syncs to Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles.

“I used to mimic that all the time when I was a kid,” Learnmore said of Terry’s performance in the film White Chicks, “Because of his physical humor, I was like, ‘I want to be like him when I grow up.'”

A producer asked Learnmore what he would say to the actor when he met him. “I’ll tell him that he changed my life,” Learnmore said.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Learnmore came to America to be on the hit talent show and said he learned English by watching stand-up performances. “We are so glad you’re here,” judge Howie Mandel said.

“This is the most fun time we’ve had today,” Sofia Vergara said. Simon Cowell added: “I actually think you are one of the funniest people we’ve had over the years. If you got it you got it I was laughing so much, you were having the best time as well.”

After his set, host Terry Crews gave Learnmore his golden buzzer. “Backstage you were telling me that you were taking 14-hour bus trips to go perform for five minutes. Then you were taking 14-hour bus trips back home. Brother, you will never have to go back home again,” the actor said before hitting the golden buzzer.

Terry ran on stage to congratulate Learnmore. “I think this is a dream? Is this happening? Punch me,” The comedian said to Terry, who threw a fake punch at Learnmore.

Fans on Twitter, now known as X, praised Terry for using his one Golden Buzzer on the comedian. “Knew it… also having his idol press the golden buzzer had to be a great feeling for him,” one fan wrote.

“Learnmore was so freaking funny and definitely had me laughing the whole time!! i loved his set,” another said. A third chimed in: “That was such a sweet moment with Terry & Learnmore.”
