Suits LA Adds The Office And MCU Stars To Debut Season Cast, And They’re All Playing Themselves

Suits LA has added three more major stars to its guest cast. The NBC legal drama is a spinoff from the USA Network series Suits, which ran for nine seasons between 2011 and 2019 and became a record-breaking streaming hit after it debuted on Netflix in 2023. The upcoming Suits LA, which will feature Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, stars Stephen Amell as ex-federal prosecutor Ted Black, who has moved from New York City to Los Angeles to found the entertainment law firm Black Lane Law with Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt).

Per Variety, three major guest stars have joined the cast of the debut season of Suits LABrian Baumgartner, Patton Oswalt, and Enrico Colantoni will all be appearing in season 1, playing fictionalized versions of themselves. Baumgartner is best known for his role as the hapless accountant Kevin Malone on The Office, Colantoni’s most recognizable role is likely that of the title character’s father Keith Mars on Veronica Mars, and Oswalt is a stand-up comedian and actor known for his roles in projects including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.EternalsThe King of QueensThe GoldbergsRatatouille, and more.

What This Means For Suits LA

These Guest Stars Follow A Casting Trend

The fact that all three actors will be joining the Suits LA cast as versions of themselves highlights a trick that the show will be using throughout its first season. Because it takes place in the world of entertainment law, it can directly engage with the celebrity status of its guest stars rather than having them play fictional characters. These three incoming stars aren’t even the first to play themselves on the show, as it has been revealed that the late Roots and Good Times star John Amos will also be appearing as himself in the pilot.

The Suits LA cast will also feature actors playing fictional characters, including Victoria Justice, Troy Winbush, and Maggie Grace.

It seems likely that, should the Suits LA spinoff be renewed for further seasons at NBC, this style of casting will continue. By having actors play themselves and potentially even lightly skewer their public personas, the show could take after satirical entertainment industry series such as Extras and Call My Agent. This could very well add a new texture that allows the show to feel like an elevation of the premise of the original Suits rather than just a retread.

Our Take On The New Suits LA Guest Stars

The Show Could Benefit Greatly From This Casting Update

Ultimately, it seems like all three of the incoming Suits LA stars have been well cast to play themselves. They all have extensive onscreen experience that benefits their guest appearances. In addition to being well-known enough to portray celebrity clients of Black Lane Law, their experience, particularly in comedic roles, could allow them to perfectly balance the legal drama at the core of the spinoff show with a slightly satirical take on Hollywood culture.
