It may be the greatest friendship of all time.
Nearly a year after returning to General Hospital, Steve Burton took to social media to pay tribute to his longtime co-star Maurice Benard.
Lean On Me
Burton (Jason) shared a candid shot of him with Benard (Sonny), appearing as if they were chatting between scenes with what looked like a script in Benard’s hand. Along with the song “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers, Burton captioned the Instagram photo, “So grateful for @mauricebenard.” He then wrote, “The [goat emoji],” referring to Benard as the G.O.A.T.
Burton and Benard have been buddies on and off screen for three decades and recalled how their friendship and mentorship originated during Burton’s appearance on Benard’s podcast State of Mind last year.
While Benard shared the heartwarming photo to his Instagram story and left a comment saying, “So grateful for Steve Burton,” the post also gained the attention of several co-stars and friends.
Lydia Look (Selina) simply wrote, “Love!” along with two heart emojis, while Burton’s fiancee Michelle Lundstrom wrote, “The sweetest friendship,” also with a heart emoji and the pleading eyes emoji. The post also received a like from Burton’s former Days of our Lives’ co-star Robert Scott Wilson (Alex).
Greatest Of All Photographers
Benard countered Burton’s Instagram post with one of his own. Along with an artsy photo of himself sitting in a chair on the set of Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) house, Benard wrote, “He is back, greatest photographer in the world!!! @1steveburton there’s nothing he can’t do.”
Stuart — who recently made a return to GH — jokingly took to the comments section to say, “That’s my friggin’ house!!!” to which Benard responded, “Not anymore,” along with a laughing emoji.
