“So self-indulgent, so embarrassing”: Taylor Sheridan Disrupts ‘Yellowstone’ as Fans Complain About His Cringey “Alpha Male” Character

Taylor Sheridan gets slammed by fans for his role in Yellowstone.

Fans are not impressed with Taylor Sheridan’s guest role in Yellowstone as they find his “alpha male” demeanor too pretentious and self-absorbed. He portrayed Travis Wheatley in the show, the rugged horse trader who conducts business with Kevin Costner’s John Dutton.

Sheridan has appeared in the series for a total of seven episodes throughout its five-season run, and he also starred in the spinoff series 1883 as the real-life rancher Charles Goodnight. Despite transitioning to spearheading television shows, it seems like Sheridan misses acting.

Fans Confessed They Hated Taylor Sheridan In Yellowstone

While some fans of Yellowstone love Taylor Sheridan’s Travis Wheatley, others cannot stand his character. A concerned fan opened up on Reddit about their annoyance with the figure, and many also seconded the sentiment. The post reads:

Taylor Sheridan is on screen? I find the fact he wrote himself into such an alpha male role with such ease, and throws in some show-off cowboy moves so self-indulgent, so embarrassing.

The user also remarked on the actor’s manner of delivering his lines which fails to convince the fan of anything he says. “He should have cast someone else, not himself,” they added.

Another Redditor shared their thoughts about Sheridan’s appearance on the show in a comment: “I don’t mind him on Yellowstone but when he snuck himself in 1883 I laughed lol that’s when it went too far for me.” The director notably appeared in the spinoff series, but some fans barely saw him on the screen.

Sheridan left acting when he noticed he was being paid less than his costars back in 2010. He spoke with the higher-ups, but it only prompted him to quit. A fan seemed to notice that something was amiss about his acting.

I did notice something off about the person’s acting skills. Honestly, I thought they had just made an exception for someone who had nice horse-handling skills and less quality acting skills,” said the fan on Reddit. Another concern was that “he writes soooo many F-bombs into his own lines.”

Fans took advantage of the thread to express their frustration with Sheridan and his Yellowstone character. One bluntly said, “I seriously can’t stand the scenes with Taylor in them. He offers nothing to the scenes he is in,” while another pointed out his alpha male stance, “He thinks he’s God’s gift to women.”

Of Course, Taylor Sheridan Cast Himself As A Cowboy

Taylor Sheridan joined Yellowstone on screen as the horse trader Travis Wheatley, and as a skilled horseback rider himself, he truly played the character so well. His dedication to the show even encouraged him to bring his own horses on the set and filmed several scenes from his own ranch.

It seems like the director shares a lot of similarities with his character. While speaking with Quarter Horse News, he said they “film Yellowstone on my ranch, so I’m able to ride daily, work cattle, etc. I’m lucky that I get to ride every day.”

It’s probably the reason why Sheridan hired himself to play the role of Wheatley. After all, as a cowboy himself, he could easily translate his own attitude to his TV role.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount Network.
