‘Skincare’ trailer: First look at Elizabeth Banks in upcoming ‘vanity crime thriller’ with Nathan Fillion

Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks transforms into a celebrity aesthetician in the upcoming movie Skincare, and we just got the first look at the film with the newly released trailer on Wednesday. The movie also stars Lewis Pullman, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Nathan Fillion.
Directed by Austin Peters, the movie, distributed by IFC Films, will be released in theatres on Aug. 16.
In Skincare Hope Goldman (Banks) is about to launch her own skincare line when her rival, Angel Vergara (Méndez), opens their own boutique right across the street from Hope’s studio.
“Beauty is a cutthroat business,” Hope says to Fillion’s character in the trailer
As we see in the first look we’ve gotten for the film, Hope gets hacked, including an embarrassing email sent on her behalf and personal photos circulated online.

Hope is convinced that someone is trying to ruin her business, and reputation, and she tries to figure out who it is, with the help of her friend Jordan (Pullman).
As we see Hope say in the trailer: “Reputation is everything in this business.”
“I don’t think it’s about the skin you start out with, I think it’s about what are you willing to do to get to where you want to be.”
Described as a “vanity crime thriller,” Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ Film Group, highlighted that Peters has “cleverly pumped life into the whodunit genre.”
A fictional story, but inspired by real events, the movie was produced by award-winning producer Jonathan Schwartz and Logan Lerman through Schwartz’s Jalapeño Goat banner, and ILBE in association with WWPS.TV.
