Simone Biles Scary Encounter on Honeymoon

She’s stared down Russian judges, but Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles had a hard time keeping her “game face” on when she encountered a real-life lion.

Biles and husband NFL player Jonathan Owens have been married for two years now, but are just getting a chance to take their honeymoon now, starting with a safari in South Africa. Biles has been posting honeymoon pictures and videos to her Instagram story.

And one of those videos features a large male lion sauntering past their open-air safari truck. Biles made it clear in her caption that it was a scary moment. Owens also posted video of the lion with the caption “had to stop recording, my heart was beating so fast.” The pair also saw giraffes, elephants and even a leopard sleeping on a tree branch

After the tense moment, Biles posted a video on TikTok referring to Owens as her “emergency contact.”

After getting their fill of wildlife, the lovebirds headed for Switzerland for the second leg of their long-delayed honeymoon.

Why Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ Honeymoon Had to Wait

Biles and Owens met in 2020 and were married in April 2023 at a Houston, Texas courthouse. A few weeks later, they hosted a second wedding on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

But when it came time for a honeymoon, both their careers got in the way. Biles explained what happened when she was a guest on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast last April.

“We were together the whole entire time, and then as soon as we get married, Green Bay [Packers were] like, ‘Hey, we wanna sign him. So we went from our wedding, dropped our bags, flew out the next morning, signed with Green Bay,” Biles told podcast host Alex Cooper. “They were like, ‘See you [on] Monday, Jonathan. So, as soon as we got married, it was long distance. So it was very different.”

Biles stayed behind in Houston to continue to train for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. There she won three gold medals and one silver, bringing her total Olympic medal count to 11, a record.

Biles then went on her “Gold Over America Tour,” showcasing her talent along with a host of other gymnasts in 30 cities across the country. At the same time, Owens headed for Chicago to play safety for the Bears.
