General Hospital the show celebrates its 62nd anniversary and so is the show’s hospital.
Expect a very special episode of television on Tuesday, April 1, as General Hospital commemorates its 62nd anniversary in a big way on screen. The residents of Port Charles gather at the hospital for the opening of a new wing that honors Dr. Monica Quartermaine. While the show will address Leslie Charleson’s passing at a later date, what’s going on Tuesday will specifically celebrate the show’s anniversary and a character that has made an indelible mark on Port Charles.

According to the teasers, there’s only one thing you need to know about for Tuesday. “Beloved Port Charles residents come together in a special episode honoring the 62nd anniversary of General Hospital and the opening of the Dr. Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Care Center.”
The celebratory episode will honor Leslie Charleson, who died in January. As Dr. Monica Quartermaine, she was one of the hospital’s strongest heartbeats for decades. This new wing will properly highlight her character’s contributions over the years. After all, the character was a cardiologist, in addition to becoming GH’s Chief of Staff and Board Chairman.
In an interview with Variety, GH executive producer Frank Valentini discussed the magnitude and significance of this moment. “The opportunity presented itself that we would have the anniversary of the hospital be on the anniversary of the show,” the EP explained. “So it’s a little meta, but I think it’s great.”
Valentini raved about the set of this cardiac wing named after Monica. It’s “a really beautiful set. It’s pretty incredible,” he revealed. According to Variety, the set will be an atrium of sorts that has an “airy” vibe and provides visitors with a “more indoor and outdoor” look. “I’m always looking for ways to challenge the production designers to figure out a way to open it up or bring us at least partially outdoors,” Valentini explained.
