New York Police Find ‘Bitey’ the Lost Dog, Urging Owners to ‘Come Get Him, Like, Now’ in Viral Post

A police department in New York state found itself jokingly begging for a surly lost dog’s owner to collect their pet, who officers nicknamed “Bitey McBiterton.”

In a hilarious Facebook post shared on Saturday, March 22, the Ossining Police Department — located about 30 miles north of New York City — shared a photo of “Bitey,” a small white dog, giving a snarl to the camera and information about how the owner can find them.

“Bitey McBiterton was found wandering on Sarah Street off North Malcolm Street,” the department wrote. “Our Officers are unsure if Bitey is male or female and aren’t keen on checking. If you recognize this super friendly pup, tell their owners to come get them, like now. Thanks.”

In an update shared soon after, police humorously confirmed that Bitey’s owner had come to collect them.

“Bitey Update: Bitey has been returned to his owners,” Ossining police wrote. “Return to your regular scheduled sunny but cold Sunday.”

Many commenters from around the country shared their thoughts underneath the post about Bitey’s “mugshot.”

“It’s always the white crusty-eyed ones,” one commenter wrote, while another chimed in: “Not him resisting arrest 😂!”

“This ain’t Bitey’s first time doing this, and I guarantee he’s gonna do it again!” another commenter added.

A similar incident with a not-so-friendly pup took place a bit further north in New York state in 2023 when the SPCA in Niagara Falls, N.Y. shared a Facebook post seeking a home for a 26-pound “demon” French bulldog named Ralphie, who the rescue described as “fire-breathing” and “a whole jerk- not even half.”

The French bulldog rocketed to fame in January when the Niagara SPCA shared a Facebook post looking for an experienced owner for the black-and-white canine.

Although Ralphie found a home in February, he was brought back to the shelter two weeks later when he “proved to be more than she [the owner] could handle,” Niagara SPCA wrote on social media at the time.

Before restarting the search for a home, Ralphie completed a six-week training program with a local organization, YourEveryDayK9.

After the French bulldog aced training, he was adopted by someone Niagara SPCA called Ralphie’s “perfect adopter” on Facebook.

“He trusts me now,” the adopter told PEOPLE soon after. “There’s a lot of trust. I gave him a bath the other day. I clean his eyes every day now. So I can move him, I can squeeze him, I can roughhouse with him. He’s completely normal with me now. A lot of it is just giving him time and understanding that his biting behavior was a remnant from his past.”
