New ‘9-1-1’ Spin-Off Alert! Everything We Know About ABC’s ‘Nashville’ Edition

ABC is set to air a new branch in its “9-1-1” series called “9-1-1: Nashville” during its 2025-26 season.

Joining other “9-1-1” shows in the series including the original “9-1-1” and “Lone Star: “9-1-1,” which was recently canceled, after several seasons, “9-1-1: Nashville” will be produced by series creator Ryan Murphy.

Bob Rains, executive director of the Tennessee Entertainment Commission, said he and several other agencies have been working with the “9-1-1” team for weeks regarding this series coming to Nashville.
“They were very excited about putting this spinoff here in Nashville,” Rains told The Tennessean. “They really felt like Nashville was the right place to have the next one after Austin. We’ve been extremely supportive with them in conversations and working with our partners at the Visitors and Convention Corp. and the mayor’s office. We are all very excited, very supportive and happy to see the series has been picked up by ABC.”

Details on casting and storylines for the Nashville show have not been released. Tim Minear and Rashad Raisani will serve as executive producers and writers, with Brad Falchuck and Angela Bassett, who stars in the original “9-1-1” now in its eighth season, executive producing.

While ABC parent company Disney didn’t disclose where the series would be filmed, Rains said he felt it was “highly likely” the shooting would be done in the greater Nashville area.

“Discussions are still active, but I am under the impression from initial conversations we will see some active principal photog starting in May,” Rains added. “They like Nashville and want to be here for the creative.”

According to “Variety,” this new “9-1-1” spinoff, like the flagship series and “Lone Star,” will follow the work and personal lives of a team of first responders in Tennessee.

“Deadline” reported that the “9-1-1” team had been exploring several locations for a potential franchise extension with talks of Las Vegas and even Hawaii, which was eliminated due to cost of production there. Producers then turned their attention to the South with Nashville emerging as a contender partly due to a tax credit the series was offered.

Raines said due to the fact that conversations are ongoing, he couldn’t comment on an incentive.
He added that a production of this size will be beneficial to residents and businesses in and around Nashville.

“The big thing about a production like this is it is great for workforce development. These are high-quality, long-term jobs that come with a TV series. It gives people in our community the real opportunity to train on a professional production set.”

It will also have a positive impact on small businesses. He said when a TV series comes into a town, they use hundreds of small businesses.

“A TV series like this will go out to 500-plus vendors across the city,” he said. “The show ‘Nashville’ used 500 to 1,000 vendors on each season. And because this is ‘”‘9-1-1: Nashville,’ it’s also a good tool for tourism.”

“9-1-1,” created by Murphy, Falchuk and Minear, premiered on Fox in 2018 before moving to ABC for its seventh season in 2024. Now in its eighth season, the series is set in Los Angeles and stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh.
