NCIS to finally return to the air after extended break – fans react

The CBS franchise has been on a three week break

NCIS and its spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i continue to run strong into their 2023 seasons, although all three have been noticeably off the air recently.

CBS’ trio of crime procedural dramas have not aired a new episode since March, with the main series last airing a new episode on Monday, March 20.

The three week-long break is not typical for the show, although it has been chalked up to being a franchise-wide spring hiatus akin to those taken during the winter weeks of December.

Fans reacted on social media as teasers from the upcoming episode were released on Sunday, with one saying: “Finally, new episode tomorrow!”

A second added: “Woohoo! Another new #NCIS adventure to look forward to,” while a third said: “Yes…mad at last week cause they had dang sports on in place of NCIS,” with CBS airing the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game instead.

NCIS’ upcoming episode is titled “Head Games,” promising appearances from cast regulars Sean Murray, Gary Cole, Wilmer Valderrama, and Katrina Law, with the previous one, “Stranger in a Strange Land,” referring to a 1961 science-fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein.

The official plot summary for “Stranger in a Strange Land” reads: “NCIS works to solve the murder of a Marine private who appears to have been killed for helping an Afghan refugee. Also, Jimmy (Palmer, played by Brian Dietzen) navigates the pressure of parenting his teenage daughter, who is eager to go out on an unchaperoned group date.”

A synopsis for upcoming episode “Head Games,” meanwhile, reads: “The NCIS team digs deep to investigate a Navy lieutenant who’s accused of trying to murder her husband but has no memory of the attack while Kasie (Hines, played by Diona Reasonover) navigates a potential medical scare.”

NCIS airs on CBS at 9pm EST, followed by its NCIS: Hawai’i at 10pm EST. NCIS: Los Angeles airs Sundays at 9pm EST.
