‘NCIS: Origins’ Spinoff Adds Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan to Cast

Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan have joined the cast of CBS’ upcoming NCIS prequel series, NCIS: Origins. They will be part of a diverse ensemble that includes Austin Stowell, Kyle Schmid, Tyla Abercrumbie, Mariel Molino, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote, with Mark Harmon serving as the narrator.

In the series, Petty will portray Dr. Lenora Friedman, a seasonedpathologist at the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. Described as being as comfortable around the dead as she is with the living, Dr. Friedman’s passion for her work is infectious. Moynihan will play Woodrow “Woody” Browne, a senior chemist and the overworked director of the NIS Forensic Lab. Woody’s lack of sleep is offset by his quirky sense of humor.

NCIS: Origins began production earlier this week and is set to premiere on Monday, October 14, at 9 p.m. ET. The series focuses on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) in 1991, long before the events of NCIS. Gibbs, a newly minted special agent, is just starting his career at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he begins to form a team led by the legendary Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).

Lori Petty’s recent work includes her role in HBO Max’s Station Eleven, as well as recurring parts in Orange Is the New Black and Immoral Compass. Her notable past credits include Point Break, A League of Their Own, Tank Girl, and Free Willy. She also recently directed the play Trial at The American Theatre of Actors.

Bobby Moynihan, best known for his nine seasons on Saturday Night Live, was recently seen in Netflix’s Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story and Paramount’s Imaginary Friends. His other television credits include Mr. Mayor, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Drunk History, among others. He is also a voice actor on various animated shows, including We Bare Bears and DuckTales, and has appeared in films such as Inside Out and Monsters University. Moynihan is also the author of the children’s book Not All Sheep Are Boring.

Casting for the series was handled by NCIS casting directors Jason Kennedy, Krysti Baxter, and Meredith Goble:
