NCIS CAST CREDITS MARK HARMON FOR SHOW’S ‘INCREDIBLE’ 450 EPISODES

NCIS CAST CREDITS MARK HARMON FOR SHOW’S ‘INCREDIBLE’ 450 EPISODES

NCIS recently celebrated a major milestone, and they credited former star Mark Hamon for the show’s success.

The crime show’s 450th episode just aired, and although Harmon left NCIS in 2021, former co-star Wilmer Valderrama praised Harmon for the show’s longevity.

“It is also a big tribute to Mark Harmon, who led this beautifully for hundreds of episodes and was able to keep this boat with the integrity and the value set that it still performs today,” he said

“What NCIS has done beautifully, and I got to say, we’re here on the shoulders of so many incredible actors that were here before us, actors who, some are here or some have passed, guest stars who have come and gone, and this show has seen so many careers blossom,” Valderrama shared. “So you think about what this show has meant, not only for the fans, but to our industry and what it’s done for us as a community of actors who are looking for that break or to be discovered.”

Katrina Law, another NCIS star, called the show “magic in a bottle,” while cast member Brian Dietzen said the “amazing” characters keep fans coming back.

Sean Murray, who’s been with the show since Day 1, said NCIS’ 450 episodes are “incredible.”

“It’s a miracle for a show to get going, to get picked up, to go a year, to go beyond that,” he continued. “To be a part of something like this is just, it’s incredible. I’ve been doing this now 20 years. They can’t get rid of me.”

Will Gibbs Return? 'NCIS' Cast Answers Your Burning Questions

Movieguide® previously reported on Harmon’s exit from NCIS:

Former NCIS star Mark Harmon, who played the iconic role of Special Agent Leroy Gibbs, recently opened up about his decision to exit the series after 18 seasons.

In a new season 19 NCIS DVD special called “Being Gibbs,” the 70-year-old actor explained that plans to write him out of the show began before his final season.

“What has always drawn me here [to NCIS, not Alaska] is the character I play and to keep it fresh and to keep it challenging,” Harmon explained. “Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK with, ‘I’m not retired.’ The character is living in Alaska as far as I know.”

Executive producer Steven B. Binder added that he did not want Gibbs to retire from the show.

“It just didn’t feel right to see him retired and shopping at the grocery store, working in his basement, and playing checkers in the park,” Binder said. “It just didn’t seem right to put him actually anywhere, so we ended up putting him nowhere. He went off into the wilderness, into the wild. And that left open any possibility. It didn’t leave the audience with any specific thing. It allowed the audience to imagine what happened to Gibbs. He can come back. He’s safe. He’s happy.”

In Season 18, Gibbs is suspended after he fights a man who is abusive to dogs. But Harmon assured fans that, like when he was suspended, Gibbs would never stop working.

“Once he works on his boat and he finishes that, which he did, then what?” he said. “So, you’re going to make those choices and play those extreme choices, then you’ve got to be open to what’s truthful behind that.”
