Law & Order SVU is a well-loved TV show and it’s no surprise that there’s a lot of excitement around its upcoming spin-off show, Law & Order: Organized Crime.
According to Deadline, Ilene Chaiken will serve as the showrunner for the first season of the show (so it looks like Elliot Stabler is about to get a new boss, in a way).
The announcement comes after Chaiken signed an overall deal with Universal Television to develop and produce scripted content.
Erin Underhill (the president of Universal Television) recently spoke about getting the opportunity to work with Chaiken.
I’ve always admired Ilene’s work from afar and am excited to finally have the opportunity to collaborate together,” she said.
“Her talent is undeniable and she brings a strong, distinct voice to her storytelling with beautifully crafted characters. Her success across all platforms makes her incomparable, and we are thrilled to welcome her to UTV.”
Chaiken has an incredible roster of credits behind her. She created The L Word, worked as the showrunner on Empire for its first four and a half seasons, and was an executive producer on the first season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
Law & Order: Organized Crime was first ordered to series in March 2020 and the show sees Chris Meloni return to his role as Elliot Stabler.
Meloni will return to Law & Order: SVU during its current season for a crossover episode that will introduce audiences to its new spin-off show in the Organized Crime unit.
The show focuses on Stabler as he returns to the NYPD after a tragic personal loss. As he fights organised crime, Stabler realises that the police department and the city have changed drastically in the decade that he’s been gone.
As he leads his task force, Stabler must adapt to the new ways of living as he tries to change his life and take down the most powerful criminals in the city.
