Kelsey Asbille Opens Up About Her Emotional Final Day of Filming on “Yellowstone”

It’s been over a month since Yellowstone aired its season 5—and, apparently, series—finale, and yet in the weeks since, new details from the end of the hit series have continued to emerge, including many of the stars sharing about their time on the show’s final season.

In a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelsey Asbille, who played Monica, the wife of Dutton son Kayce on the series, opened up about her own experience wrapping up her time on the show, revealing that there was real life danger in the form of nearby wildfires while they were bringing the season to a close.’

“Our last day of shooting is something I’ll never forget because we were kind of sitting ducks with the fires, with the smoke,” Asbille explained. “So, we were waiting for it to finally clear. It was our last day; it’s the final time you see these characters, and we’re all on horseback—even our director, Taylor Sheridan, he’s on horseback—and we’ve got a hundred cattle, and the clouds just part and the sun goes over the hill and it’s just gorgeous, really beautiful.”

Asbille also revealed that the final season posed some particular challenges for her, as it involved her character Monica getting into cowgirl mode.

“I’m so scared of horses. So Taylor kept being like, ‘Monica, ride up, ride up,’ and I’d be like, ‘Nope, she’s gonna be right here; she’s gonna oversee from behind,’” Asbille revealed. “My first day of cowboy camp—they didn’t invite me until the very last year, with good reason because I’m just absolutely terrified—they threw me in right with all the cattle, and I’m just a mess. But we’ve got the best wranglers in the world so… I trust them.”
