Jamie Dornan Opens Up About Why He Could Never Be a ‘Boy Dad’: ‘We Simply Couldn’t Handle It’

Jamie Dornan was born to be a girl dad.

The actor, 41, appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna when he was asked by co-host Hoda Kotb, 59, about the best part of being a girl dad. Dornan shares his three daughters — Dulcie, Eva and Alberta — with his wife, film composer Amelia Warner, also 41.

“All of it. The monumental challenge of it,” Dornan says. “It’s the best — I don’t know any other way.”

“Three girls, I don’t know how I’d be as a boy dad. I’m not sure I could deal with the energy. I’m someone who has a lot of energy anyway, I’m quite hyper often. We wouldn’t cope if there were three hyper boys in the house.”

“You’re kind of a sensitive type too,” Kotb tells the actor.

“I’m sensitive too, and I think that is beneficial to being a girl dad definitely,” Dornan agrees. “I just love it, like it’s mad. Any version of two of them it’s usually okay, and throw the third in and they’re…” he makes two fists and clashes them together.

Jamie Dornan’s Daughters are ‘Obsessed’ with Dad’s Song and Dance Number from ‘Barb and Star’

In January 2022, Dornan told PEOPLE that his daughters were “obsessed” with his song from Barb and Star Take Vista Del Mar.

“They’ve watched Barb and Star. When I say they watch it, I mean they mostly just watch my song,” Dornan told PEOPLE at the time.

“That’s what they’re obsessed with. Even the 2-year-old’s obsessed with that and wants to watch that all the time. So that’s on our most watched YouTube playlist, probably,” he added.

The actor continued, saying his daughters have only recently started to appreciate Dad’s job, sparked by Dornan’s brief voice-acting role in Trolls World Tour.
