“It’s okay. No. Uh-uh”: Emilia Clarke Must be Thankful She Doesn’t Have to Return to a $2B Franchise That’s an Even Bigger Stain on Her Career Than Game of Thrones S8

Emilia Clarke’s acting career had its ups and downs, with Terminator Genisys overshadowing even the Game of Thrones blunder.

Emilia Clarke has seen both the highs and the lows of the Hollywood business. The actress has consistently proved her versatility by taking on roles that depicts her diverse range as an actor. However, not all of her performances have been able to grab the same acclaim from viewers.

For many, Game of Thrones might be at the top of the list, given how the final season of the show was a topic of contention among the public. But on the other hand, it was her involvement in Terminator Genisys that left a huge stain on her illustrious acting career, even bigger than GOT.

Emilia Clarke Dodged a Bullet by Saying No to More Terminator Movies

Playing Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones skyrocketed Emilia Clarke’s career trajectory. The show was well-acclaimed, and her performance as the Mother of Dragons was widely appreciated. However, even her acting abilities couldn’t save the show from presenting a rather subpar season 8. Many thought this would be the biggest blow to her career as an actor.

However, in this respect, her role in Terminator Genisys can easily overshadow GOT as the actress’ biggest letdown. The movie, which had one of the biggest franchise names associated with it, was a complete disappointment when it was released in 2015.

This was one of the biggest reasons why, in an interview, when asked about possibly returning to the Terminator franchise, her response did not surprise many. She added, “No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

On the same subject, Clarke detailed in a past interview that she was relieved that the movie failed commercially, as it meant she would not have to return for a sequel. She further detailed that filmmaker Alan Taylor, who collaborated with her on GOT, was “eaten and chewed up on Terminator,” adding fuel to rumors about how everyone had a terrible time filming the movie.

What went wrong behind the scenes of the movie is still unclear. But after this, Emilia Clarke was part of several well-acclaimed projects, the most notable of which was Me Before You, released in 2016 and based on the novel of the same name by Jojo Moyes.

Currently, the actress is all set to headline as well as act as an executive producer for Universal Television’s PONIES.

With several well-acclaimed projects under her belt, actress Emilia Clarke is all set to embark on a new journey. The media is buzzing with the actress’ involvement in the upcoming PONIES, a series that has been given a straight-to-series order by the streaming service Peacock.

This is a huge opportunity for her, given that she’s not only headlining the show but also acting as an executive producer, thus adding another feather to her impressive cinematic portfolio.

PONIES is an acronym for “Persons of No Interest” within the intelligence corridors and will be set in 1977 Moscow. The storyline will center around two secretaries working at the American Embassy whose lives take a dark turn when their husbands are mysteriously killed at the height of the Cold War.

Driven by this, they quit their jobs and become CIA agents to uncover several dark secrets as well as the mystery behind their husbands’ deaths.

The show is co-created and co-written by Susanna Fogel, best known for her work on The Flight Attendant, and David Iserson. In PONIES, Clarke will play the role of Bea, described as “an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants.” Clarke’s involvement in this project is sure to offer a compelling and charismatic performance.
