Is Chicago PD back with new episodes in December 2022?

Chicago PD dropped the mic with its fall finale. There were tense moments, shocking revelations, and some crucial moments of development between Voight (Jason Beghe) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).

The ongoing saga involving murderer Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) came to a head when he was shot and nearly killed by his police chief father. The IU managed to save him, however, meaning he will still play a role (albeit a limited one) in the rest of season 10.

When is the rest of season 10 going to pick up, though? Can we expect to see new episodes before the end of the year?

When is the next episode of Chicago PD?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. PD, along with the other titles in the One Chicago franchise, will be off for the rest of December 2022, which means it will resume its usual time slot in 2023. It’s standard operating procedure for NBC, who prefers to air specialized holiday content and events during the end of the year.

Given the live nature of so many of these events, NBC prefers to shelf scripted dramas and open up the prime evening time slots for them. It makes sense, given that most viewers like to watch holiday content with their families. Running out brand new episodes of shows like PD during a time such as this would run the risk of lower ratings.

It also gives the writers and showrunners for One Chicago a chance to regroup and finish up the episodes that make up the back end of the season. There are several elements to look forward to when season 10 resumes, like the introduction of new characters and the episode that mark the directorial debut of the show’s former star, Jesse Lee Soffer.

It remains to be seen whether Soffer will reprise his role as Jay Halstead at any point during the season, but we will definitely be tuned in every week starting January 4, 2023 to find out.
