Yellowstone is soon wrapping up with the final batch of episodes, but that will be far from the end for the popular Paramount franchise. With more spinoffs and sequels planned, original star Kevin Costner revealed he would be open to returning to the Dutton land if his conditions are met.

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning about reprising his role as John Dutton in Yellowstone, the actor expressed his willingness to return. The Oscar-winning actor also addressed the controversy surrounding his departure from the franchise and explained whether his new project, Horizon, had anything to do with his departure from the final episodes of the beloved series.
Responding about whether his Yellowstone filming schedule stopped him from working on his new franchise, the actor replied: “No,” Costner said. “I did everything that I was contracted to do with Yellowstone.” The answer comes after the actor noted his departure came because he wanted to focus on his four-part Horizon project. The actor also responded whether he’d be willing to return to Taylor Sheridan’s universe. “Yeah, if I like the story, where it was going, I would go back,” he replied.

Costner also addressed his return on June 17 in an interview with Today about possibly coming back to the Yellowstone universe. “I’ve supported that thing and I’ve loved it,” he said of the show. “It’s been really important to me. I would love to go back under the right circumstances. I think that all of us want. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances.” He added, “Saying there’s a chance, there’s always a chance. I love the thing. You’ve got to be really clear about that.”
