Sitting next to Rachel was an unnamed English man played by Hugh Laurie, who was annoyed by her incessant tapping on her lap. Rachel apologized and started telling him why she was traveling to London, but he put his headphones on. Rachel ended up telling her whole story to the guy sitting on the other side, but Laurie’s character could still hear everything. Even more annoyed than he was at first, the English man called out Rachel for trying to ruin Ross’ wedding.

Rachel defended herself, arguing that Ross had to know how she felt, but the man told her there was no point in that because Ross was in love with Emily, and she was a horrible person for wanting to ruin what could be the happiest day of his life – and the cherry on top was him telling Rachel she and Ross were clearly on a break. Rachel didn’t understand why what she was about to do was wrong until she saw Ross happy, but her presence caused a major disaster at the wedding.

In just a couple of minutes, the Guy On The Plane was able to see what viewers had already realized in four seasons: how complicated and toxic Ross and Rachel’s relationship was. Ross had an obsessive crush on Rachel when they were in high school, but she never knew until they reunited now as young adults. Rachel and Ross eventually got together, but the latter’s jealousy ended their relationship and led to the famous “we were on a break” moment. A lot has been said about Ross’ actions in his relationship with Rachel, but the latter also had her questionable moments.

Ross and Rachel did more harm to each other than good throughout Friends, and fans can only hope that they finally had a healthy relationship after the show ended.
